Tesla Model Y Juniper Launches in the UK, Performance Version Incoming with 7 seaters option

The highly anticipated 2025 Tesla Model Y, codenamed Project Juniper, has officially gone on sale in the UK. Tesla is initially offering the Launch Edition Long Range All-Wheel Drive model, starting at £60,990, with PCP lease options available for 24 to 48 months. However, the lineup is set to expand, including a high-performance variant and even a 7-seater option later this year.

What to Expect from the 2025 Model Y Performance

Tesla’s Performance models have long been known for their enhanced speed, acceleration, and handling, and the new Model Y Performance will be no exception. Speculation surrounding this high-performance trim has intensified in recent months, with multiple spy shots surfacing online, showing the upgraded Model Y undergoing public road tests.

Key Features of the Model Y Performance (Expected)

✅ More powerful dual-motor setup
✅ Lowered adaptive suspension for improved handling
✅ Performance brakes for sharper stopping power
✅ New wheels and aerodynamics for enhanced stability
✅ Upgraded interior materials to match the premium Performance branding

Tesla executives Lars Moravy and Franz von Holzhausen have confirmed that both the Performance and 7-seater variants will be added to the lineup later this year.

Tesla Model 3 Performance as a Benchmark

To get a sense of what the Model Y Performance might offer, we can look at the newly upgraded 2025 Model 3 Performance, which boasts significant enhancements:

Model 3 Performance Specs:

⚡ Acceleration: 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds
⚡ Top Speed: 163 mph
⚡ Total Power Output: 460 PS
⚡ Dual-motor AWD system

Beyond sheer power, the Model 3 Performance features Tesla’s first-ever adaptive suspension, which significantly improves ride comfort and handling.

This adaptive setup offers three distinct modes:

  • Standard Mode: Balances comfort and performance
  • Sport Mode: Stiffens suspension and enhances steering response
  • Track Mode: Optimized for maximum performance on racetracks

Efficiency Meets Performance

Despite delivering more power, Tesla has managed to improve efficiency. The Model 3 Performance achieves a 2% reduction in energy consumption compared to previous models, giving it: ✅ 329 miles of range (WLTP)
✅ 16.7 kWh/100 km (3.7 mi/kWh) efficiency rating

The Model Y Performance is expected to inherit many of these improvements, likely offering a blend of higher speed, improved handling, and better efficiency.

Tesla Model Y vs. Its Competitors

Tesla faces fierce competition in the electric SUV market, particularly from Chinese EV giant BYD, whose Sealion 7 is a direct competitor to the Model Y Juniper. Additionally, Tesla has been grappling with a significant drop in European sales, with figures plummeting nearly 50% in recent months.

Potential Challenges for Tesla

❌ Increased competition from BYD and other Chinese automakers
❌ Supply chain constraints impacting production and delivery
❌ Recent Cybertruck crashes raising concerns over FSD reliability

With Tesla aiming to reassert its dominance, the Model Y Juniper and upcoming Performance variant will play a crucial role in maintaining Tesla’s market leadership.

Final Thoughts: What This Means for Tesla Fans

The 2025 Tesla Model Y Juniper marks a major step forward for Tesla’s best-selling SUV. While the Launch Edition Long Range AWD is now available in the UK, the Performance variant and 7-seater model are set to bring even greater versatility and excitement to the lineup.

🔜 What’s Next?

  • Expect official details on the Model Y Performance later this year.
  • Tesla will continue rolling out adaptive suspension and efficiency improvements across its lineup.
  • The battle between Tesla and its competitors will intensify, especially in Europe and China.

With orders now open, should you buy the Model Y Juniper or wait for the Performance model? 🚀🔥
