Kakunoshin Ohta Expands IMSA Campaign—Joins Era Motorsport for Sebring & Road America

Kakunoshin “Kaku” Ohta is set to broaden his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship campaign, joining Era Motorsport for multiple LMP2 outings while continuing his GTP-class duties with Acura.

The Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) Development Programme driver will take on the 73rd running of the 12 Hours of Sebring (March 14) alongside Tobi Lutke and David Heinemeier-Hansson in Era Motorsport’s #18 Oreca 07 LMP2.

Ohta has been making waves since his IMSA GTP debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January, and his expanded schedule now includes six races across both the LMP2 and GTP categories, solidifying his presence in North American sports car racing.

Ohta: “Era Motorsport Is a Proven Winner”

Ohta, already familiar with Era Motorsport from their collaboration in 2024, expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities:

“I’m happy to announce that I’m going to race with Era Motorsport at Sebring and Road America. Era is a reliable team that has achieved great results every year in the LMP2 class.”

“We have been working together since 2024, so our partnership is already strong, and I am confident that we can achieve good results.”

A Packed IMSA Calendar for Ohta in 2025

In addition to Sebring and Road America, Ohta’s IMSA schedule includes:

  • 6 Hours of Watkins Glen (June 22) – Meyer Shank Racing’s #60 Acura ARX-06 GTP with Renger van der Zande & Nick Yelloly
  • 2h40m Sportscar Weekend at Road America (August 3) – Era Motorsport #18 LMP2
  • 6-Hour ‘Battle on the Bricks’ at Indianapolis (September 21) – Meyer Shank Racing Acura #60 GTP

Era Motorsport Thrilled to Continue Collaboration

Era Motorsport team founder Kyle Tilley welcomed Ohta’s increased involvement, highlighting the team’s strong relationship with the driver and HRC.

“The entire team at Era Motorsport are thrilled to welcome Kaku onboard for Sebring and Road America. Both he and HRC have been wonderful to work with, and we are honored to have the opportunity to collaborate on this project.”

The Verdict: Ohta’s IMSA Presence Continues to Grow

With a six-race IMSA campaign spanning LMP2 and GTP competition, Ohta’s stock is rapidly rising in international endurance racing.

  • His Sebring and Road America LMP2 stints will give him more seat time in a highly competitive class.
  • His continued GTP commitments with Meyer Shank Racing ensure valuable top-class prototype experience.

For the Honda Formula Dream Project (HFDP) graduate, 2025 could be a breakthrough season as he cements himself as a key figure in IMSA’s new generation of talent.
