Lorenzo Bertelli Pulls Out of Rally Sweden—Luxury Heir Cites ‘Unforeseen Work Commitments’

In a sudden twist ahead of Rally Sweden, Lorenzo Bertelli, the heir to the Prada empire and part-time World Rally Championship competitor, has withdrawn from this week’s event, citing unforeseen work commitments.

Bertelli, who has made sporadic WRC appearances in recent years—typically entering one Rally1 event per season—had planned to compete in Sweden for a third straight year alongside co-driver Simone Scattolin. However, just days before the action was set to begin, he announced that his plans had changed.

“Regrettably, Simone and I will not be participating in WRC Rally Sweden this week,” Bertelli said in a statement. “Everything was set for what is always one of our favorite rallies, but unforeseen work commitments have come up.”

Bertelli also expressed his gratitude toward Toyota Gazoo Racing for their preparation efforts, while offering an apology to fans who were eager to cheer him on through Sweden’s snow-covered forests.

“We hope to have the opportunity to compete at another event later in the season,” he added.

Bertelli’s Exit Shrinks Rally1 Field Further

Bertelli’s withdrawal further thins out what was already a limited Rally1 grid, leaving just 11 top-class entries for the second round of the 2024 WRC season.

Despite his absence, Toyota will still field four cars with its full-time factory lineup, while M-Sport Ford also has four entries and Hyundai will run three cars.

Bertelli’s next potential appearance remains uncertain, but given his limited WRC schedule, fans hoping to see the luxury fashion heir turned rally driver in action may have to wait until later in the season.
