Carlos Sainz Slams Ferrari’s Lost Opportunity in Qatar GP as Constructors’ Title Slips Away

Carlos Sainz has laid down the challenge to Williams, urging the team to match Ferrari’s relentless attention to detail as they look to rebuild into a front-running force.

Fresh off his exit from Ferrari, where he spent three seasons fighting at the front, Sainz is bringing a new mentality to Grove—one that could make all the difference.

“At Ferrari, there’s an obsession with finding the last tenth, the last hundredth of a second. Every single individual is focused on it. That’s what it takes to compete against Red Bull, McLaren, and Mercedes.”

For Williams, a team that finished ninth in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship, this is a wake-up call from a driver who has seen what it takes to win.

Williams’ 2025 Reality Check: Building for 2026, But Staying Competitive

Williams has been clear about its priorities—2025 may be a transition year, as the team focuses on the regulation overhaul coming in 2026.

🔹 Williams finished 9th in 2024, struggling for consistency
🔹 2025 is expected to be another rebuilding season
🔹 The real target is a competitive leap in 2026 with new regulations

But Sainz isn’t settling for that. He wants Williams to adopt a top-team mindset right now.

“That last tenth of a second will make the difference. If you add up all these milliseconds, trust me, it will pay off on track.”

Williams may not have Ferrari’s 1,200-person operation, but Sainz believes passion and attention to detail can help bridge the gap.

“I have no doubt that you guys are as capable as anyone at the front of the field. Let’s be obsessed with those hundredths.”

Why Sainz is the Key to Williams’ Revival

Williams boss James Vowles sees Sainz’s signing as a huge coup, noting that every team Sainz has joined has improved with him in the lineup.

🚀 McLaren made strides when he was there
🚀 Ferrari became stronger during his tenure
🚀 Now, Williams is hoping for the same effect

Vowles even went so far as to say that Sainz was one of the top two drivers on the grid at times.

But what sets Sainz apart? He believes it’s his mindset and relentless work ethic.

“I always give my maximum to every team. It doesn’t matter if it’s here at base or at the track.”

Unlike some drivers who just show up and race, Sainz is deeply involved in the engineering, strategy, and atmosphere of a team.

“I love spending time with my engineers, looking at set-ups, analyzing onboards—I’m a racing freak.”

That level of commitment could be exactly what Williams needs to close the gap to the front of the grid.

Can Williams Keep Up? Or Will Sainz Get Frustrated?

Sainz’s mentality shift is clear, but the real question is:

🔹 Can Williams deliver the improvements he’s demanding?
🔹 Will Sainz’s Ferrari experience accelerate their development?
🔹 Or will frustration creep in if results don’t come quickly?

Williams is betting that Sainz’s drive will push them forward, but the clock is ticking.

“Let’s be obsessed with that hundredth of a second, because it’s going to make the difference.”

If Williams matches Sainz’s intensity, they could be a real force in 2026.

But if they fail to deliver, don’t be surprised if Sainz starts looking elsewhere for a team that can.

Final Take: Sainz is Here to Win, Not Just Rebuild

Carlos Sainz isn’t treating Williams as a stepping stone—he’s treating it as a project he can elevate.

🔹 He wants the team to adopt a top-team mindset now
🔹 He’s bringing a level of intensity that Williams hasn’t had in years
🔹 If the team responds, they could be a surprise contender in 2026

For now, the challenge is clear—can Williams match Sainz’s obsession?

The answer will define the team’s future.
