The opening race of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series, the Daytona 500, concluded with caution, as the star driver from Hendrick Motorsports secured his first victory at the Track. He emerged as the winner under caution after NASCAR had to implement a yellow flag due to the crash involving [driver names].

Driver [number] from Hendrick Motorsports was battling for the win alongside Byron, Chastain, and the 2022 Daytona 500 champion Cindric. He made slight contact with the No. 1 Trackhouse Chevy, causing him to take the lead from William Byron just as the caution flag was raised.

According to the rules, when the yellow flag is displayed and/or the caution lights are illuminated during the white flag lap, cars will be scored based on their respective track position. Bowman was disadvantaged in this situation – the rules state that when the lights illuminate, the race is considered over. [Video link]

A video circulating on social media, sourced from Bowman’s in-car footage, shows that the No. 48 Chevy had taken the lead before the yellow lights were activated, indicating that the caution had been signaled. The lights turned on at least two seconds after Bowman overtook his teammate.

@WilliamByron was the leader at the time of the final caution after taking the white flag. This photo was used to determine the finishing order and Byron’s victory in the Daytona 500. [Photo link]

However, NASCAR released a statement explaining why the caution was called, despite only Cindric and Chastain being involved in the incident, which refutes the claim that Bowman was unfairly treated. The photo shared by NASCAR clearly shows that Byron was leading when the caution was called, as Cindric’s car made its way back onto the track from the infield grass. The confusion arose from the fact that the lights ahead of Bowman took some time to be activated, leading to a misunderstanding of the situation.

Bowman played a significant role in the major wreck of the day at Daytona. The incident on lap 192 involved 22 cars, including contenders for the race win, and was a result of Bowman’s maneuver against his teammate William Byron.

The No. 48 driver, who had a strong run on his teammate in the No. 24 car, gave him a push, causing Byron to make contact with [driver name]. This set off a chain reaction, but both Byron and Bowman managed to avoid any damage.

Keselowski, who lost control of his No. 6 Ford, veered up the track and collected Joey Logano, leading to a chain reaction involving over 20 cars between turn three and turn four. [Driver names] were among the notable names caught up in the chaos.
