Theo Pourchaire Joins Maserati for Formula E Rookie Test in Jeddah

Formula 2 champion and rising motorsport star Theo Pourchaire is set to get his first real taste of Formula E action after signing with Maserati MSG Racing for next week’s rookie test in Jeddah.

The 2023 F2 title-winner, who has been exploring multiple disciplines since leaving the Sauber Academy, will take part in the FP0 session on February 13, just before the historic first-ever Formula E double-header in Saudi Arabia.

“Maserati is an iconic car brand, and I’m very happy to be working with Maserati MSG Racing,” Pourchaire said. “This will be my first time driving a Formula E car during a race weekend, and I can’t wait to get out on track.”

Pourchaire’s Path to Formula E: The Next Step?

🔥 IndyCar & Endurance Experience – Pourchaire recently raced in IndyCar with Arrow McLaren and has also secured a test role with Peugeot TotalEnergies in the World Endurance Championship (WEC).

🔥 Previous Formula E Test Experience – He first drove a Gen3 Formula E car in May 2022, giving him some familiarity with the all-electric series.

🔥 A Future in Formula E? – While there are no immediate race seats available, this rookie test could serve as a stepping stone for Pourchaire to transition into the championship in the near future.

What to Expect from Pourchaire in Jeddah?

Pourchaire’s advantage? He’s no stranger to the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, having competed there in Formula 2 three times.

“I know the Jeddah track from F2, I’ve raced there three times, but on a slightly different configuration and in a very different car. I do think knowing the track a little helps, especially when I will be in a new car with a new team.”

However, he acknowledges the challenge of adapting to the Gen3 Formula E car, which is far different from his previous single-seater experience.

“I’ve done some simulator work with the team to prepare myself, but nothing compares with the real thing.”

Why This Test Matters for Pourchaire & Maserati MSG Racing

✔️ Maserati is evaluating young talent for future seasons, and Pourchaire’s versatility across different racing disciplines makes him an attractive candidate.

✔️ Formula E’s growing reputation as a top-tier series means that many drivers are eyeing it as a long-term career path—Pourchaire could be next.

✔️ Maserati’s ambitions in Formula E continue to grow, and bringing in a driver of Pourchaire’s caliber could strengthen their lineup in future seasons.

Will Pourchaire impress enough to earn a future Formula E seat? His rookie test performance in Jeddah could provide the answer.
