Elliotts & Earnhardts: NASCAR’s Most Iconic Families Now Share Another Honor

What a statement win to kick off the 2025 NASCAR season! Chase Elliott didn’t just win the Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray—he completely owned the night.

From the moment he clinched the pole with the fastest lap, Elliott looked like the man to beat. And when the green flag dropped, he never looked back—leading a staggering 171 of the 200 laps en route to an emphatic Clash victory.

But this wasn’t just another win. This was history in the making.

By winning the Clash, Chase Elliott carved his family name even deeper into NASCAR’s rich legacy, joining his father, Bill Elliott, and the legendary Earnhardts in an elite group of winners.

Elliotts & Earnhardts: NASCAR’s Most Iconic Families Now Share Another Honor

NASCAR’s Clash exhibition race has been a prestigious season-opener since 1971, with some of the sport’s greatest names etching their names into its history.

Now, the Elliotts and Earnhardts stand as the only father-son duos to have both won the Clash.

  • Bill Elliott won the Clash in 1987.
  • Dale Earnhardt Sr. won it six times (1980, 1986, 1988, 1991, 1993, 1995).
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr. followed suit, winning in 2003 and 2008.
  • And now, Chase Elliott has added his name to this exclusive list.

Even beyond the track, these two legendary families dominate NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver (MPD) award.

  • Bill Elliott leads the all-time count with 16 MPD titles.
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr. won 15 consecutive times.
  • And Chase Elliott just secured his 7th straight win.

Chase Elliott Reacts to Joining NASCAR’s Most Elite Club

After claiming his Bobby Allison Memorial Trophy, Elliott took a moment to reflect on what this win meant.

“That is really cool… You know, any time you have special event races like this or whatever, you always wanna win it, even though it’s not a points race just like the All-Star Race or whatever it may be. So that’s really cool – certainly gonna take some time to reflect on that.”

And of course, he knew exactly what this victory meant in terms of NASCAR history.

“To join Dale and Dale Jr, it’s a pretty elite group to be a part of. I certainly don’t take that for granted.”

A Flawless Performance: How Elliott & Hendrick Motorsports Dominated the Clash

This wasn’t just a great win for Elliott—it was a testament to the raw power and precision of the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports team.

“It was a great weekend…not just tonight, but just a really good effort all-round for our team,” Elliott said.

“Great week of prep, had a really good Saturday – put us in a great position to capitalize today which was the ultimate goal. I think it all started obviously in the shop and then how we executed yesterday.”

With Hendrick Motorsports firing on all cylinders, Elliott sent a clear message to the competition—he’s coming for a big 2025 season.

A Legacy That Stands the Test of Time

While Chase Elliott embraces the honor of sharing history with the Earnhardts, the respect is mutual.

These two families have shaped NASCAR’s past and present—and with Elliott entering 2025 in top form, the future of this legendary rivalry is far from over.
