Jean Todt Snubs Lewis Hamilton—Names Leclerc as His Favorite Driver Over the Seven-Time Champion

Despite Lewis Hamilton’s legendary status in Formula 1, former FIA president and Ferrari mastermind Jean Todt has made it clear—the Briton isn’t his favorite driver on the grid.

While Hamilton’s bombshell move to Ferrari for 2025 has dominated headlines, Todt didn’t hesitate to favor Charles Leclerc when asked about his top driver.

“My favorite driver is [Charles] Leclerc, but [Max] Verstappen is the best on the field today.”

A bold statement, considering Hamilton’s seven titles, record-breaking career, and continued dominance in the sport.

Why Did Todt Pick Leclerc Over Hamilton?

Todt’s preference for Leclerc over Hamilton comes down to one key factor—qualifying dominance.

🔴 Leclerc’s One-Lap Mastery: The Monegasque is known for blistering one-lap pace, frequently outshining even Red Bull and McLaren in qualifying sessions.
🔴 Hamilton’s Qualifying Struggles: In recent seasons, Hamilton has faced more difficulty securing pole positions, with younger drivers consistently edging him out on Saturdays.

Todt’s favoritism toward Leclerc isn’t necessarily a knock on Hamilton—it’s a reflection of his admiration for pure qualifying speed and Leclerc’s growing reputation as one of the fastest drivers over a single lap.

Ferrari’s Big Question: Will Hamilton & Leclerc Be Better Than Leclerc & Sainz?

While Ferrari’s Hamilton-Leclerc pairing is one of the most anticipated duos in F1 history, Todt isn’t convinced that it’s an improvement over the previous Leclerc-Sainz lineup.

“The Leclerc-Sainz couple was very good, no one can argue that they lost because of the drivers.”

“Even about the Leclerc-Hamilton couple, there is not much to say—it is just as good. Better than the previous one? I have no idea. The machine will tell us.”

Todt raises a crucial point—while Hamilton and Leclerc bring undeniable talent, Ferrari’s 2025 success won’t be decided by their driver lineup alone. Instead, it all comes down to the car.

Can Ferrari’s 2025 Car Deliver a Championship?

Ferrari made massive strides in 2024, pushing McLaren and Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship battle. If the Italian team continues its upward trajectory, 2025 could be the best chance in years to reclaim both titles.

🔥 Will Ferrari finally break its 16-year championship drought?
🔥 Can Hamilton bring the magic of Schumacher’s Ferrari dominance back?
🔥 Will Leclerc finally get a title-worthy car?

Final Thoughts: Hamilton vs. Leclerc—A Battle Within Ferrari?

While Jean Todt may favor Leclerc, Hamilton isn’t joining Ferrari to play second fiddle. Expect fireworks between these two titans as they fight for supremacy inside Maranello.

The real question? Can Ferrari handle the heat when both drivers are fighting for the same goal?

One thing’s for sure—2025 is shaping up to be an unforgettable season.
