Montoya’s Bold Claim: A ‘Fast’ Ferrari Could Bring Back the Unstoppable Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari debut ignites tifosi frenzy: Is this the dawn of a new F1 era?

For the past few seasons, Lewis Hamilton has seemed like a man searching for his former self. Since the heartbreaking 2021 title loss to Max Verstappen, the seven-time world champion has been locked in an uphill battle—just two Grand Prix wins in three years, a shadow of the dominance he once commanded. But if you ask Juan Pablo Montoya, that’s about to change.

In fact, the former F1 star believes that if Ferrari delivers a fast car in 2025, Hamilton will return to his unbeatable form—and not even Verstappen will be able to stop him.

Montoya: “If Ferrari delivers, Hamilton will be untouchable”

Hamilton’s blockbuster move to Ferrari has already set the sport on fire. The Tifosi have embraced him with open arms, flocking to the Fiorano track just to catch a glimpse of their new hero in red. But beyond the excitement, one major question looms: Can Ferrari finally build a title-winning machine?

Montoya is convinced that if they do, Hamilton will instantly become the biggest threat on the grid again.

“What happened to Lewis Hamilton is what happened to Fernando Alonso,” Montoya told Crash.net. “They still have 100 percent of their speed, but they will still somehow qualify just in the top 10. If the car is capable of winning, then they would be much higher.”

He then dropped the bombshell:

“If Hamilton has a fast car this season, we’ll see the old Hamilton from a few years ago, the Hamilton that nobody can beat, not even Max Verstappen.”

That’s a staggering claim. Verstappen has ruled Formula 1 with an iron fist, racking up four consecutive championships and dismantling the competition with ease. But Montoya suggests that Hamilton’s raw talent never disappeared—it was simply shackled by Mercedes’ decline.

The Ferrari gamble: Will Hamilton get what he needs?

While the prospect of Hamilton returning to his peak form is thrilling, Montoya posed another key challenge:

“The question for Ferrari is how will they keep him motivated?”

At 40 years old, Hamilton is at a career crossroads. Unlike his younger rivals, he doesn’t just need a fast car—he needs an environment where he can thrive, believe, and fight at 100%. Ferrari hasn’t won a championship since 2007, and their track record of inconsistent decision-making and strategy blunders raises doubts.

But Hamilton’s arrival signals a cultural shift. His presence alone could be the final piece of the puzzle Ferrari needs to finally take the fight to Red Bull.

Early setback won’t shake Hamilton’s hunger

The Hamilton-Ferrari era hasn’t even officially begun, yet it’s already had its first hiccup. Last week in Barcelona, Hamilton crashed during testing, cutting his session short and disrupting teammate Charles Leclerc’s run.

While critics were quick to pounce, Hamilton made one thing clear: his excitement hasn’t wavered.

Taking to social media, he declared: “The first race can’t come soon enough.”

That’s the mindset of a driver who isn’t here to fade away—he’s here to rewrite history.

Can Hamilton’s Ferrari resurgence shake up the Verstappen era?

Montoya’s prediction is bold, but it’s far from impossible. Hamilton has been down before—and every time, he’s come back stronger. If Ferrari delivers the car he’s been waiting for, Formula 1 could be on the brink of an epic showdown:

The return of prime Lewis Hamilton vs. the reigning force of Max Verstappen.

If Montoya is right, 2025 might just be the year F1 gets the heavyweight battle fans have been dreaming of.
