Bowman Gray Brings the Heat: NASCAR Stars Revel in ‘Madhouse’ Mayhem Ahead of Clash

Kevin Harvick was in the middle of calling practice for the Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium when he couldn’t help but say what was on everyone’s mind.

“Everything about this is cool.”

And cool might just be an understatement.

For the first time since 1971, NASCAR Cup Series cars roared around the legendary quarter-mile bullring in Winston-Salem, and it didn’t take long for the chaos to erupt.

From drivers figuring out the tight layout to contact in the pack and pole sitters running away, the Madhouse lived up to its name. But here’s the kicker—everyone seemed to be having a blast.

While The Clash may be an exhibition event, this venue is far from just another race track. For many, Bowman Gray is home—and the passion was on full display.

Chris Buescher: ‘I’ve Never Seen So Many Middle Fingers’

For Chris Buescher, Bowman Gray isn’t just another race—it’s a trip down memory lane.

“I raced a Legends car here over 15 years ago, and it was cool then. It was really cool. I’m not going to lie—the track was tight in a Legends car, and it’s surely small now.”

But Buescher knows what he signed up for. He’s watched the infamous Madhouse fights unfold, and he’s experienced the finger-flipping passion of the Bowman Gray crowd firsthand.

“I’ve come up here as a fan and watched more fingers fly than I thought were actually in the stands. It’s got a lot of character, and surely it’s making it a lot of fun.”

The track walk before practice was proof enough. Fans didn’t just stick around after the Modified race—they stayed to heckle, cheer, and let the drivers know exactly how they felt.

“It’s really special,” Austin Dillon added. “I remember coming here on Saturday nights, sitting in the beer garden, watching the wrecks, and the race that happened around the wrecks.”

For Dillon’s grandfather, Richard Childress, this is where it all started—selling peanuts in the grandstands, buying a $10 taxicab, and eventually wrecking in Turns 1 and 2 with calcium-filled tires spraying powder into the air.

It’s a place where legends were built—and, if history tells us anything, tempers are bound to flare.

Kyle Busch Stirs the Pot (Again)

Kyle Busch joked that NASCAR handed out a script for who’s supposed to fight who—but let’s be real, this is Bowman Gray, no script needed.

Busch himself was at the center of drama, pushing Justin Haley’s rear bumper for multiple laps under caution after getting spun.

That’s The Madhouse, folks.

200 laps. A tight track. Nowhere to hide. This is going to get messy.

Ryan Blaney’s Take: This Clash Proves NASCAR Can ‘Move Around’

For Ryan Blaney, Bowman Gray proves that The Clash doesn’t have to stay in one place.

“The reputation of this place—it’s a lot of passionate people who love Bowman Gray. It’s a historic track, and I think it’s a good race for this Clash. You have the ability to move this race around to different parts of the country, so that’s nice.”

But before NASCAR packs up and takes the show elsewhere, there’s one more showdown left—and it’s shaping up to be an all-out war.

So, buckle up.
Bowman Gray is ready to deliver.
And the drivers? They’re about to experience a level of chaos they’ll never forget. 🔥🏁
