Mazda is preparing to showcase the four generations of the MX-5 at Rétromobile 2025, an event taking place from February 5 to 9 at the Parc des Expositions de la Porte de Versailles in Paris.

The Japanese brand, which is celebrating 35 years of the iconic MX-5, will display examples and special editions of the first three generations of the world’s best-selling roadster, alongside a more recent MX-5.

Unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show on February 9, 1989, the MX-5 has garnered a large fan community and numerous awards over the years, demonstrating its excellence.

With a design reminiscent of a classic rear-wheel-drive sports car, yet resolutely innovative in how its engine is positioned centrally at the front—configuration that ensures excellent weight distribution—the Japanese roadster revived a car segment that had nearly disappeared at the time. Compact and lightweight, the Mazda MX-5 truly redefined the joy of driving with the top down.

“If a passion for automobiles rhymes with simplicity, then driving a Mazda MX-5 rhymes with pure pleasure. For 35 years, across various generations, our roadster has withstood the test of time, ensuring driving enjoyment for many owners of this now legendary model. With 1,256,745 units produced, the Ujina factory in Hiroshima has just set a new record”, said Laurent Thézée, General Director of Mazda France.
