VW will not launch the ID.7 in North America as initially planned. The decision, now reported by “Automotive News,” is based on the “ongoing challenging climate of the electric vehicle market.”
The 100% electric sedan, presented in 2023, was expected to be launched in the United States and Canada in the third quarter of 2024. However, in May of last year, VW cited issues causing delays in bringing the electric model to the North American market.
The plan involved producing the ID.7 in Germany and starting sales in North America the following year. A VW spokesperson contacted by “Automotive News” confirmed the decision, emphasizing that the current context of the electric vehicle market is unfavorable.
Furthermore, uncertainty in the North American market has increased since Donald Trump took office, after the new U.S. president announced plans to focus on internal combustion engine vehicles and to end subsidies for electric vehicles.
Additionally, Trump wants to impose an extra 10% tariff on cars exported from Europe to the U.S.
