Who says NASCAR drivers save their competitive fire for the racetrack? Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Brad Keselowski proved that their rivalry isn’t just about speedway dominance—it even extends to who can reach the restroom first!

In a hilariously unexpected showdown, Earnhardt Jr. recently revealed on his podcast a “dumb idea” that turned into an impromptu race—one that left him gasping for air and questioning his own fitness.

A bathroom break turns into a sprint for glory

The scene? A race weekend where two of NASCAR’s biggest names found themselves in a very human predicament—both needing a bathroom break at the same time. What should have been a casual walk erupted into an all-out footrace, as Earnhardt Jr. explained.

“Brad’s like, ‘I’m gonna go to the bathroom.’ I said, ‘I kind of gotta go too,’ so I took off running ahead of him.”

But if Earnhardt Jr. thought he’d win by default, he clearly underestimated Keselowski’s competitive streak.

“He took off after me, and I was like, ‘Of course now I’ve got to beat him.’”

What followed was nothing short of a NASCAR-style drag race—on foot. Fans in the grandstands watched in disbelief and amusement, cheering them on as they bolted down the back straightaway like it was Lap 199 at Daytona.

“It was like a race within the race,” Earnhardt Jr. laughed.

Victory comes at a price

Earnhardt Jr. ultimately crossed the finish line first, reaching the bathroom ahead of Keselowski—but his win came at a cost.

“I got in there, and I nearly freaking died. I was out of breath…. I shouldn’t have sprinted that hard for no reason,” he admitted.

It was a wake-up call for the former NASCAR champion, whose past lifestyle of late-night partying, drinking, and smoking had clearly caught up with him. Once known for going hard off the track as much as on it, Earnhardt Jr. realized that maybe—just maybe—he wasn’t quite in peak athletic shape anymore.

The Earnhardt Jr. of today: A changed man

Fans who’ve followed Earnhardt Jr. for years know that he has evolved from his hard-partying days into a disciplined, health-conscious legend. While his reflexes behind the wheel remain sharp, it’s safe to say that his days of random sprints against fellow drivers are over.

But one thing hasn’t changed—his ability to make fans laugh.

For NASCAR fans, this hysterical bathroom sprint might just go down as one of the funniest off-track moments in racing history.

And as for Keselowski? He may have lost this unsanctioned footrace, but don’t be surprised if he challenges Earnhardt Jr. to a rematch.

Maybe next time, they’ll pick a shorter distance.
