After finishing the year 2024 as the brand with the most recalls in the USA, Tesla did not start 2025 in the best way, as it has just “called in” over 1.2 million models in China.
One of the recalls involves 871,087 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built and sold in China, produced between January 3, 2022, and September 23, 2023, and equipped with an electronic power steering system that, according to the State Administration for Market Regulation of China, may cause steering malfunctions.
The good news is that this issue, like many others previously in the USA, can be resolved with a simple software update.
The second recall in China involves 335,716 vehicles and is related to a reverse camera error. This is the same problem that recently affected nearly 240,000 Tesla models in the USA.
The problem affects imported Model S and Model X vehicles, as well as Model 3 and Model Y vehicles produced in China between July 16, 2023, and December 14, 2024.
Elon Musk’s brand revealed that the issue is a failure in the computer board of its models, causing the reverse camera to malfunction, and that the error can mostly be resolved with a software update. However, some models will need to visit Tesla service centers for specialized intervention.
