Mazda is preparing to renew the MX-5, almost nine years after the launch of the second generation of the SUV, which was released in 2016. The Japanese company has already announced that the third generation of the model will feature an internally developed hybrid engine, along with a set of other improvements.
The prototype of the new generation Mazda-5, recently spotted by “Carcoops” testing in the USA, still wrapped in traditional camouflage, shows a design that is already close to production models, suggesting that its debut is imminent.
Despite maintaining a familiar silhouette, the new generation of the CSX-5 features a variety of new design elements that differentiate it from the current generation.
Thus, at the front, the lighting signature is marked by thinner headlights and a bumper that features a minimalist design with a single air intake. Additionally, in profile view, the square wheel arches reminiscent of the CX-50 stand out, but they are combined with a more discreet plastic cladding, potentially matching the body color.
At the rear section, there is a highlight on the new taillights, which feature LED graphics clearly inspired by Mazda’s CX-60, 70, 80, and 90 series. Additionally, the generously sized trunk door is complemented by an extra dose of plastic trim and an exhaust system that has two tailpipes.
Mazda has not yet revealed details about the engine of the new generation MX-5, but it has made it clear that the model will feature, for the first time in its history, a hybrid engine, although it has not specified whether it is a simple hybrid or a more complex plug-in hybrid.
