The combustion Porsche Macan may be making a comeback.

Porsche Macan a combustão pode estar de regresso

Porsche may be on the verge of moving forward with a new generation of the Macan SUV featuring a combustion engine, considering the global decline in demand for 100% electric models.

The Macan SUV has been one of Porsche’s most successful models for about a decade, and in this regard, the German brand revealed in July 2024 the new Macan Electric, the second 100% electric vehicle from Porsche, following the Taycan.

The arrival of the Macan Electric has put an end to gasoline versions of the well-known Porsche SUV in Europe due to stringent cybersecurity regulations, although the second commercially most successful Porsche vehicle, only behind the Cayenne, continues to be sold in other markets.

Now, according to the “Autocar,” Porsche is close to revising its decision after a warning for 100% electric models came with a 50% drop in Taycan sales, due to a cooling demand for electric models globally.

The decision to bring back the combustion Macan is thus gaining traction, especially since at the end of 2024, Porsche’s Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Lutz Meschke, confirmed that combustion engine models will continue to be an essential part of Porsche’s lineup for longer than initially anticipated.

It is worth noting that Porsche initially expected electric vehicles to account for 80% of its global sales by 2030; however, this target has been revised to “depend on customer demand”.

Moreover, Porsche had already decided to extend the life of the thermal Cayenne for a while longer, despite a 100% electric variant expected to hit the market by the end of the decade.

If Porsche decides to bring back the combustion Macan, all indications suggest that the model will be based on the PPC platform, the same one used by Audi for the new Q5.
