Charles Leclerc has tipped his former Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz to spearhead Williams’ return to the top of Formula 1, praising the Spaniard’s immense talent and meticulous work ethic. Sainz’s move to the Grove-based team, after a competitive stint at Ferrari, has sparked optimism about Williams’ potential resurgence.

From Ferrari to Williams: Sainz’s New Challenge
Carlos Sainz’s tenure at Ferrari came to an end after the 2024 season, as seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton took his place. Sainz left Ferrari on a high note, having contributed significantly to their revival from a dismal 2020 campaign to a strong second-place finish in the Constructors’ Championship last season, which included five race wins.

Now at Williams, a team that finished ninth in 2024, Sainz faces an uphill battle. Yet, Charles Leclerc is confident that his former teammate has the tools to transform the struggling outfit.

“Carlos is so incredibly talented. He’s helped me improve in so many areas,” Leclerc said. “His discipline, work ethic, and sensitivity to the car will be a massive asset to Williams. It’s just a matter of time before he brings them back to fighting for wins.”

Leclerc and Norris Sing Sainz’s Praises
Leclerc isn’t the only driver to highlight Sainz’s impact. McLaren’s Lando Norris, who partnered with Sainz from 2019 to 2020, has also praised the Spaniard’s ability to uplift a team.

“Carlos is the type of driver who elevates everyone around him,” Leclerc added. “His attention to detail and feedback will be invaluable. I have no doubt Williams will see immediate improvements.”

Sainz’s Influence on Ferrari’s Revival
Leclerc credited Sainz as a driving force behind Ferrari’s recent success, citing his contributions to the team’s strategy and performance. “If Ferrari has made such significant progress in the last four years, it’s largely thanks to Carlos,” Leclerc explained. “He’s been an incredible teammate, and I’ve learned so much from him.”

Despite their competitive relationship on track, Leclerc reflected fondly on their time as teammates. “We’ve had our moments on track, sometimes even tension, but I wouldn’t be the driver I am today without him,” he admitted. “Looking back, those battles were a privilege, and I’ll miss them.”

A New Dawn for Williams?
For Williams, Sainz represents a critical piece in their rebuilding efforts. The team has been searching for a path back to its former glory, having last won a championship in 1997. Sainz’s experience, combined with his ability to provide detailed feedback, is expected to accelerate their progress.

Leclerc is confident that Sainz’s presence will have an immediate impact. “He will give so much to Williams. I’m sure that even in his first test, his feedback will be invaluable for their development next season.”

What’s Next for Sainz?
While the immediate goal is to lift Williams out of the lower midfield, Leclerc believes Sainz’s return to the front of the grid is inevitable. “Whether it’s with Williams or another team, Carlos will be back at the top. He deserves it, and it’s only a matter of time,” he said.

Leclerc’s Farewell and Optimism
As Sainz embarks on his new journey, Leclerc expressed gratitude for their partnership and optimism for his former teammate’s future. “It’s been a pleasure working with him, and I wish him all the best. Carlos deserves to be fighting for wins and championships, and I have no doubt he will get there.”

With Sainz’s talent and determination, Williams might just have the catalyst they need to begin a new era of success in Formula 1.
