Lewis Hamilton, a name synonymous with Formula 1 greatness, is embarking on a bold new chapter in 2025. After a storied career with Mercedes, the seven-time world champion has made a dramatic switch to Scuderia Ferrari, fulfilling a childhood dream. While questions swirl about his recent form and Ferrari’s ability to deliver a competitive car, one voice of assurance comes from Hamilton’s former teammate and 2016 F1 champion, Nico Rosberg.

Rosberg’s Verdict: Hamilton is Already a Legend

Despite struggles in the ground-effect era, Rosberg is unequivocal in his praise for Hamilton’s legacy. He believes Hamilton’s record speaks for itself, even if his last two years at Mercedes were challenging.

“Lewis is driven by a deep love for the sport and the desire to continue pushing himself beyond his limits,” Rosberg said. “He is already a legend and has nothing to prove.”

Hamilton’s decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari, despite a winless streak and fluctuating form, highlights his relentless drive. For Rosberg, this choice reflects not just Hamilton’s hunger to win but also his desire to continue evolving as both a driver and a person.

“His choice shows the hunger of a man who wants to continue to grow, both as a driver and as a person,” Rosberg added.

Hamilton’s Mercedes Struggles

Hamilton’s dominance in F1, which saw him claim seven world titles, has been put to the test in the last two seasons. As Mercedes struggled to adapt to F1’s ground-effect regulations, Hamilton faced the longest winless streak of his career, spanning over two years.

Though he managed to secure race wins in 2024, Hamilton reportedly considered walking away from the sport mid-season, frustrated by inconsistent performances and a car that couldn’t compete with Red Bull’s dominance.

The Ferrari Dream: A New Chapter for Hamilton

Switching to Ferrari is as much a personal milestone as it is a professional one for Hamilton. The Briton has often spoken of his admiration for the Scuderia and its iconic red cars, making this move the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

But Hamilton isn’t just chasing nostalgia—he’s looking for a team that can reignite his championship hopes. At 40 years old, Hamilton knows this is likely his final shot at adding to his record-equalling seven titles. Ferrari, however, will need to deliver a car capable of taking on Red Bull and its reigning champion, Max Verstappen.

The Pressure of the Prancing Horse

The weight of Ferrari’s legacy is both a blessing and a curse. While the team’s rich history inspires greatness, the pressure to perform is immense. Hamilton’s arrival at Maranello has heightened expectations, with fans and critics alike eager to see if the Briton can deliver Ferrari its first drivers’ title since 2007.

However, the road to success is anything but certain. Ferrari’s 2024 campaign was riddled with operational missteps and reliability issues. If they can’t provide Hamilton with a competitive and reliable car, even his legendary skills may not be enough to turn the tide.

Rosberg’s Confidence in Hamilton’s Legacy

Regardless of how the 2025 season unfolds, Rosberg is adamant that Hamilton’s place in the pantheon of F1 legends is secure. For Rosberg, Hamilton’s achievements are unmatched, and his willingness to take risks—like joining Ferrari—is a testament to his undying passion for the sport.

“Lewis doesn’t need to prove anything. His career has already established him as one of the greatest,” Rosberg concluded.

Will Ferrari Deliver?

As Hamilton begins his Ferrari journey, all eyes are on the Scuderia to see if they can deliver a car worthy of his talents. The stakes couldn’t be higher, but if anyone has the skill and determination to overcome the odds, it’s Lewis Hamilton.
