Toyota Gazoo Racing is present at the Tokyo Motor Show, which kicked off this Friday and runs until next Sunday, showcasing a special version of the small “hot hatch” GR Yaris, equipped with an engine positioned behind the seats.
This is the GR Yaris M Concept, a prototype equipped with a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that is still under development, and little is known about it, as Toyota Gazoo Racing has not disclosed the power output of this engine or other details.
However, the Japanese automaker’s sports division revealed that it intends to produce some test models with this new, more powerful mid-engine, which will be driven by test drivers to evaluate its capabilities.
It is worth noting that the current GR Yaris is equipped with the latest development of the 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo engine, producing 280 hp and 390 Nm of torque, paired with an intelligent six-speed manual transmission (6iMT) or an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
