Will Denny Hamlin Keep Winning in 2025? NASCAR Experts Debate His Chances Amid Major Changes at Joe Gibbs Racing

After nearly two decades of unwavering loyalty and stellar performance with Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), Denny Hamlin’s NASCAR career is facing turbulence like never before. Despite a remarkable 54 career victories, placing him 13th on the all-time wins list, Hamlin’s elusive pursuit of a NASCAR Cup Series championship is increasingly fraught with challenges—both on and off the track.

The FedEx Fallout: A Legacy Ends

FedEx, Hamlin’s primary sponsor since his Cup debut in 2005, announced its departure at the end of the 2024 season, ending one of NASCAR’s most iconic partnerships. Together, they notched crown jewel victories, including three Daytona 500 wins and a Coca-Cola 600 triumph. However, FedEx had been scaling back its involvement since 2021, reducing its race count annually before fully exiting the sport this year.

Without FedEx, the No. 11 team has been scrambling to secure sufficient sponsorship. In 2024, Mavis Tires emerged as a key player, sponsoring seven races. However, recent reports suggest that Mavis may also be cutting ties, further destabilizing Hamlin’s sponsorship landscape. A glaring absence of Mavis Tires from JGR’s official partner page has added fuel to the speculation.

The Gabehart Shake-Up: A Winning Duo Splits

Hamlin’s partnership with crew chief Chris Gabehart was one of the most successful in NASCAR. Since teaming up in 2019, the pair delivered 23 race wins, including two Daytona 500 victories, and consistently contended for championships. Yet, JGR announced that Hamlin would be paired with a new crew chief for 2025, a decision that blindsided the veteran driver.

“The first few days were a shock, but I’m moving on,” Hamlin admitted. “JGR is doing what they feel is best for them, and I totally understand that.”

While Hamlin is putting on a brave face, the loss of a trusted partner like Gabehart raises questions about his ability to adapt and thrive with a new dynamic in the No. 11 camp.

Sponsorship Woes: Mavis Tires Departure?

The potential exit of Mavis Tires adds another layer of uncertainty. While no official announcement has been made, fans have noticed Mavis missing from JGR’s sponsor list for 2025. If true, Hamlin’s ability to secure funding for a full-season campaign could be severely hampered.

What Does This Mean for Hamlin’s Future?

Fans and analysts are left wondering if these mounting setbacks signal the twilight of Hamlin’s NASCAR career. At 44 years old, Hamlin still has the skill and determination to compete at the highest level, but the business side of NASCAR is as unforgiving as the sport itself.

While Hamlin remains one of the sport’s biggest names, the loss of long-term partnerships and crew chief chemistry is a significant blow. If sponsorship issues persist, JGR might consider prioritizing younger talent with more stable financial backing.

Is Hamlin’s Career Nearing the End?

With the departure of FedEx, the Gabehart split, and the potential loss of Mavis Tires, Hamlin faces an uphill battle to remain competitive. However, Hamlin has defied odds before, and his determination to win a Cup Series championship could be the motivation he needs to overcome these hurdles.

The 2025 season will be pivotal. For Hamlin, it’s not just about winning races but proving that he still has what it takes to compete at NASCAR’s highest level despite the setbacks. Whether this chapter marks the end of an illustrious career or the beginning of a resilient comeback remains to be seen. One thing is certain: the No. 11 team will have all eyes on it as Hamlin fights to keep his NASCAR dream alive.
