Clyde Vickers: A Legacy That Shaped NASCAR’s Past and Future

The NASCAR community is mourning the loss of a true pioneer, Clyde Vickers, who passed away at the age of 73 on January 3, 2025. Vickers was a monumental figure in NASCAR’s history, contributing not only as a racer at tracks like Caraway Speedway and Bowman Gray Stadium but also as a visionary innovator through his company, CV Products. His influence extended across the racing world, where his innovations in automotive parts set a benchmark for quality and performance.

A Lifelong Commitment to Racing Excellence

Clyde Vickers wasn’t just a participant in racing; he was a game-changer. After stepping away from the driver’s seat, Vickers dedicated his life to advancing the sport’s technology and supporting teams across all levels. His company, CV Products, became a cornerstone for countless NASCAR teams, providing high-performance parts that elevated competition standards.

Through his work, Vickers played an integral role in helping organizations like Roush Yates Engines achieve their success. The engine builder, among others, paid tribute to him, stating:

“Clyde, throughout his life and businesses such as CV Products, helped many succeed in racing. We would not be where we are today without his efforts and innovations.”

A Man of the People

What set Vickers apart was not just his technical acumen but his kindness and commitment to the racing community. Fans, colleagues, and even competitors took to social media to share memories of his generosity and the high standards he upheld:

  • “You can tell a lot about a man in the quality of his products and service. CV set the standard. RIP.”
  • “Truly one of the nicest people in the business. RIP my friend.”
  • “My dad raced with Clyde, and I bought many parts from him. RIP Clyde.”

Vickers’ influence wasn’t limited to the garage or the racetrack. He earned respect and admiration for fostering an environment where innovation thrived, empowering teams and individuals to push their limits.

The Family Legacy

Clyde Vickers’ legacy lives on through his family, most notably his son Brian Vickers, a former NASCAR star who carved out his own successful career with three Cup Series wins and a 2003 Xfinity Series championship. Clyde’s support of his son was emblematic of his broader dedication to the sport and the people within it.

A Lasting Impact
