Kyle Larson’s whirlwind week: From Australia’s richest sprint car prize to Tulsa Shootout dedication

Kyle Larson is no stranger to a packed schedule, but his recent exploits take the term “whirlwind” to a whole new level. Fresh off a historic win in Australia, Larson hopped continents and fought jet lag to compete in the Tulsa Shootout, all while balancing family priorities and his insatiable love for racing.

The Aussie domination

Larson’s journey began Down Under, where he captured headlines by winning the richest prize in Australian sprint car history. Racing at the High Limit International 410 Sprint Car event in Perth, Larson pocketed AUD 100,000 and left a trail of sold-out merchandise in his wake. The victory further solidified his global reputation as one of motorsport’s most versatile stars.

“It was an incredible experience,” Larson reflected. “The fans were amazing, and the competition was top-notch. To bring home a win like that is special.”

From Down Under to Down in Tulsa

But celebration was short-lived. Larson quickly shifted gears—literally and figuratively. After a grueling travel itinerary involving a flight to Sydney, a 15-hour haul to Los Angeles, and a quick connection to Tulsa, Larson was on the ground for the iconic Tulsa Shootout, one of the biggest micro-sprint events in the world.

Why the rush? Speaking with High Racing reporter Tony LaPorta, Larson laid out three reasons for his unwavering commitment:

  1. Family first: “To be here for Owen [his son] and his racing—it’s his first time at the Shootout,” Larson shared. The chance to watch and support his son’s debut at such a renowned event was a priority for the NASCAR star.
  2. A birthday celebration: “It was our youngest son’s birthday on the 31st, so it was nice to get back for that,” Larson added, showing his commitment to balancing his busy schedule with family milestones.
  3. A pure love for racing: “I just love racing,” Larson said with a grin. “It’s a cool event where I can run four different classes and get to race with Chad Boat some more.”

The Tulsa Shootout experience

For Larson, the Shootout isn’t just another race—it’s a chance to immerse himself in the grassroots racing scene that shaped his career. Competing across four classes and reconnecting with old friends like Chad Boat, Larson demonstrated why he’s not only a global motorsports icon but also a genuine enthusiast for the sport’s community roots.

Balancing a legendary career and fatherhood

Larson’s packed schedule highlights his unparalleled dedication to racing, but it also showcases his role as a father and family man. Whether it’s supporting Owen at the Shootout or flying home for a birthday, Larson’s actions prove that even in the world of high-speed motorsports, family comes first.

As for what’s next? Knowing Larson, it’s likely another race, another victory, and another story to add to his already illustrious career.
