Ted Kravitz Explains Why He Turned Down a Cameo in Brad Pitt’s Blockbuster F1 Film

Behind the Scenes of the F1 Movie: How Red Bull Was Convinced It’s Not the Villain

The Formula 1 world is eagerly awaiting the release of Brad Pitt’s F1 movie, but Sky Sports F1 reporter Ted Kravitz has revealed why he declined a potential cameo in the star-studded production. With the film set for a June release, Kravitz shared his reasons, balancing jest with professional reservations about stepping into the Hollywood spotlight.

Behind the Scenes of Pitt’s F1 Masterpiece

The F1 film, produced by Brad Pitt alongside Lewis Hamilton, has been in the works since 2023, with on-location filming ramping up during the 2024 F1 season. The production had unprecedented access to Formula 1 circuits and teams, thanks to the sport’s backing, but not without sparking paranoia among certain paddock members.

Mercedes collaborated heavily on the project, even developing the fictional APXGP car, which is a modified Formula 2 chassis. However, Red Bull and other rival teams raised concerns about potential biases, fearing their portrayal in the movie might not be flattering.

Despite the tensions, Red Bull boss Christian Horner has shown support, describing the film as “a major step for Formula 1 on the entertainment stage.”

Why Ted Kravitz Said No

During an interview, Kravitz humorously recalled his interaction with Brad Pitt at the Abu Dhabi GP, where the final scenes of the film were shot. According to Kravitz:

“I think the offer of a cameo role was sort of a joke, because I think he offers everybody a cameo role. And they were wrapping filming that afternoon. I don’t think I really turned it down—I think it was meant in jest. I returned in jest.”

While Kravitz downplayed the seriousness of the offer, his refusal underlines his commitment to staying in his lane as a journalist rather than stepping into the cinematic limelight.

A Hollywood Boost for F1

With Pitt starring and Hamilton contributing behind the scenes, the film aims to bring a fresh wave of fans into the sport. Red Bull, despite initial reservations, has softened its stance on the project, with Horner acknowledging the potential benefits:

“It’s another massive step for Formula 1, and I’m sure they’ll do the sport justice in the way that they present it.”

The timing couldn’t be better, as the 2024 season delivered one of the most competitive years in F1 history, with seven different drivers claiming victories. The movie’s dynamic on-track footage and gripping behind-the-scenes drama will undoubtedly amplify the sport’s global appeal.

High Expectations for 2025

As Formula 1 builds on the incredible momentum of the 2024 season, the upcoming Brad Pitt film could play a pivotal role in expanding its fanbase. With the sport’s intense rivalries, groundbreaking technology, and cinematic flair, this production is poised to become a cultural touchstone for F1 enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

Whether Kravitz’s decision to forgo a cameo was serious or lighthearted, the film’s impending release is set to shine a new spotlight on the sport—and perhaps introduce its own drama worthy of the F1 paddock.
