Against All Odds: Verstappen Eyes Championship with Slower Red Bull and Controversy; Jos Verstappen – “Max will do everything to win the title”

Max Verstappen may have secured his fourth consecutive Formula 1 world championship in 2024, but storm clouds loom over his future at Red Bull Racing. Despite his son’s success, Jos Verstappen has raised eyebrows with comments suggesting Max could leave the Milton Keynes-based squad if their dominance falters in the coming seasons.

Red Bull’s Turbulent 2024: A Year of Triumph and Tension

Red Bull’s 2024 campaign was anything but smooth sailing. Allegations against Team Principal Christian Horner rocked the team early in the season, and a bombshell departure by Chief Designer Adrian Newey to rivals McLaren only deepened the crisis. These internal upheavals sparked a wave of personnel changes, leaving the team in a precarious position.

While Verstappen masterfully navigated these challenges to clinch the Drivers’ Championship, it wasn’t without immense effort. By midseason, Red Bull’s RB20 was no longer the fastest car on the grid, forcing Verstappen to dig deep and deliver exceptional performances, most notably his jaw-dropping victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Jos Verstappen: “Anything Is Possible”

Despite Max’s public declarations of loyalty to Red Bull, Jos Verstappen remains unconvinced.
“Anything is possible,” Jos said. “He can stay at Red Bull if he sees the point. His goal is to win races. If he feels this is no longer possible at Red Bull, a switch is not out of the question.”

These remarks underline the mounting pressure on Red Bull to deliver a championship-caliber car in 2025. With McLaren surging ahead as the favorites for next year’s title, the Austrian team faces a daunting challenge to maintain its competitive edge.

McLaren Poised to Strike in 2025

McLaren’s resurgence in 2024 culminated in their Constructors’ Championship victory, and the team is now considered the top contender for both titles in 2025. Lando Norris, Verstappen’s closest rival last season, will lead McLaren’s charge alongside their rapidly improving machinery.

For Verstappen, a switch to McLaren—or any other top team—might become an attractive option if Red Bull struggles to close the gap.

Max’s Heroics Keep Red Bull Afloat

The Dutch ace’s performances in 2024 have cemented his reputation as one of F1’s greatest drivers. From strategic brilliance to outright dominance, Verstappen made the most of an RB20 that lagged behind its rivals in the latter half of the season.

“It was some very difficult races, but he came through it very well,” Jos Verstappen said. “The race in Brazil was unbelievable, and that performance was key to securing the title.”

Red Bull’s Race Against Time

With McLaren primed to dominate and Mercedes quietly regrouping, Red Bull must pull out all the stops to keep Verstappen satisfied. The team’s 2025 car, the RB21, must deliver not only performance but also reliability to give Max a shot at his fifth consecutive title.

While Verstappen’s contract ties him to Red Bull until 2028, a competitive downturn could test that commitment. If Jos Verstappen’s comments are any indication, the Dutchman’s loyalty is conditional—and Red Bull’s future may hinge on their ability to deliver a championship-worthy package in 2025.
