Albon believes he should be awarded an F1 vehicle amidst speculation regarding his future.

Alex Albon, the Thai driver for Williams Racing in the Formula 1 World Championship, expressed his belief that he deserves a car capable of winning races in the sport. However, he made it clear that he wants to achieve this goal with Williams, despite ongoing speculation about his future. Albon’s impressive performances since his return to F1 in 2022 have put him in the spotlight and attracted interest from top teams. He was even considered as a potential replacement for Carlos Sainz at Ferrari, until the team announced the signing of Lewis Hamilton. Albon has also been linked with a possible return to Red Bull. While Williams boss James Vowles confirmed that Albon has a contract for 2025, he indicated that the team would not stand in his way if another team approached him. Albon emphasized his belief in his ability to compete for victories and stated that the team’s progress will determine his long-term commitment. He expressed his excitement about the development of the new FW46 car and his eagerness to assess its performance in the upcoming races. Albon sees himself as being very close to reaching his full potential as a driver, but acknowledges that there is always room for improvement. He believes that he deserves a car capable of achieving podium finishes and fighting for wins. Albon’s main focus is on Williams, and he is determined to contribute his best efforts to the team. However, he is aware of the intense competition in the driver market and the interest from teams for long-term contracts. Albon’s preference is to stay with Williams if the team meets his expectations, but he is open to considering other options if necessary. He emphasized his commitment to a long-term partnership with the team, stating that it’s either all the way or nothing.

Williams rose from the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship to seventh place last season. However, Vowles acknowledges that making further progress in the meantime may be challenging. Instead, the former Mercedes Strategy Director has implemented plans to revitalize the infrastructure at the Grove base in preparation for the upcoming 2026 regulation changes.

Albon has praised the strong bond he shares with Vowles, highlighting how his team leader ensures his involvement in the team’s future plans. “James always keeps me informed about the team’s current situation, the advancements we’ve made, and the areas we need to focus on. He also identifies areas where I can contribute to improvement,” he explained. “He maintains an open line of communication, which fosters a positive relationship with your team principal.”

Realistically, it will take time. I believe that it won’t be until 2026-27 that we can consistently compete for podium finishes, and that’s still quite a way off. However, I am content with the progress we are making and the journey we are on. My vision for the team’s future is crystal clear, and I will do everything in my power to support and drive us towards that goal.
