Max Verstappen’s Paw-ssionate Advice: F1 Paddock Too Stressful for Lewis Hamilton’s Roscoe

Formula 1 isn’t just about high-octane racing—it’s also about the personalities that inhabit the paddock, and that includes the furry companions of some of its stars. While Lewis Hamilton’s bulldog, Roscoe, has long been a staple in the F1 paddock, reigning champion Max Verstappen has raised concerns about the stress it might cause for the beloved pooch.

Verstappen’s Warning: “It’s Not Nice for a Dog”

Verstappen, himself a pet parent to two Bengal cats, shared his thoughts on the bustling environment of the paddock, cautioning against bringing pets into such a high-energy setting.

“No, even if I would have a dog, I wouldn’t want the dog to come here [in the F1 paddock] because it’s very stressful. Everyone wanting to touch him, it’s not nice for a dog,” Verstappen told Sportskeeda.

Roscoe, Hamilton’s constant companion since 2013, is known for his vegan diet and frequent travels with the seven-time world champion. However, 2024 proved challenging for the 11-year-old bulldog, who faced health issues despite Hamilton’s meticulous care. Verstappen’s remarks underscore concerns that the paddock’s commotion might be too overwhelming for pets.

Hamilton and Roscoe: Off to Maranello

As Hamilton transitions to Ferrari in 2025, both he and Roscoe will embark on a new chapter. Hamilton is set to debut in red later this month, as the Scuderia gears up for a high-stakes season after finishing third in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship.

Red Bull’s Tactical Gain from Constructors’ Miss

While Verstappen secured his fourth Drivers’ Championship in 2024, Red Bull’s failure to clinch the Constructors’ title brought a surprising silver lining. Under the FIA’s Aerodynamic Testing Allowance (ATA) system, teams finishing lower in the standings receive more development resources. By placing second, Red Bull gains 80% of the baseline wind tunnel time in 2025, compared to the 70% they would’ve received as champions.

Verstappen himself acknowledged this unexpected advantage:

“We have, I guess, a positive. We won the Drivers’, didn’t win the Constructors’, so we gained a bit of wind tunnel time. In a way, maybe that’s positive.”

With a seismic regulation reset looming in 2026, efficient use of these resources will be pivotal. Red Bull, Ferrari, and other top teams are already strategizing to dominate the next era of Formula 1.

Looking Ahead: Furry Friends and F1 Futures

While Hamilton prepares for his Ferrari debut and Verstappen eyes further domination, Roscoe might have to sit out the chaotic paddock life in favor of quieter days. As F1 heads into a season brimming with competition, even its off-track dynamics—whether concerning pets or regulations—promise intrigue and drama.
