Smart made its debut in the automotive market in 1998 with the city-coupé, the predecessor of the popular fortwo. Now, four years after the creation of the new Daimler-Geely partnership for the development and production of a new generation of electric vehicles, it is presenting the second model of the joint venture: smart #3, an SUV with coupé-like features that shares the platform with the #1, specifically designed for 100% electric cars, and will be available in Portugal from March. Prices have not yet been announced, but they are expected to start at €43,500, €1,500 more than the smart #1.
The smart #3 is offered in the national market with the same four equipment lines (Pro, Pro+, Premium, and Brabus), but it introduces a fourth option, corresponding to a commemorative version for the brand’s 25th anniversary. This new limited edition is based on the Brabus version of the #3, adding exclusive elements to it.
Two numbers up
Compared to the #1, the #3 has a sportier look, with a focus on more aerodynamic shapes, a slimmer front end, and a roofline that clearly slopes towards the trunk. However, the brand also took care to ensure that the styling exercise does not compromise the practical and functional side of what is the largest smart ever.
The length has increased to 4.44 m (13 cm more than the #1), the width is now 1.84 m (16 cm more), and the wheelbase has also been extended to 2.78 m, a leap that translates into generous interior space, especially in terms of legroom for rear passengers. The trunk of the #3 is also larger (385 liters compared to 288 liters).

Gama simplificada
En el lanzamiento del #3, smart mantiene la estrategia de simplificar la oferta, con la gama desdoblándose en solo dos versiones: con un motor eléctrico de 272 CV de potencia; o, en la versión Brabus, con dos motores eléctricos que entregan un máximo de 428 CV. En ambas configuraciones, la batería tiene una capacidad de 66 kWh, para una autonomía de hasta 455 km, y, en un cargador rápido de 150 kW, recupera del 10 al 80% de carga en 30 minutos.
Un guepardo que habla
La reinvención de smart comenzó con la conversión total a la electrificación y, obviamente, también se centró en la conectividad, como se puede ver en la interfaz digital y las funciones a bordo del #3, que incluso cuenta con un asistente virtual, animado visualmente por un guepardo (es un zorro en el #1), una mascota que se mueve en el monitor que está en la parte superior del tablero (12,8» y en color) y que recopila toda la información de conducción y multimedia.
