Mercado Automóvel da União Europeia cresce 6,7% em novembro

The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) revealed that new car sales in Europe have once again fallen into the red, after a slight increase in October, declining by 1.9% in the last month of the year, with 869,816 new vehicles registered.

In a statement, ACEA noted that overall, the European market recorded a growth of 0.4% in the eleven months of 2024, with 9.7 million units, “driven by the Spanish market which saw a growth of 5.1%, while the French market declined by -3.7%, Germany recorded a decrease of -0.4%, and Italy by -0.2%”.

ACEA also mentioned that the market for 100% electric vehicles in Europe fell by 9.5% in November to 130,757 units. “The decline in sales of fully electric models was mainly driven by a significant reduction in registrations in Germany (-21.8%) and France (-24.4%)”. Thus, the market volume from January to November decreased by 5.4% compared to the same period in 2023, with a total market share of 13.4%.

Meanwhile, registrations of plug-in hybrid vehicles dropped by 8.8% in November, following significant declines in France (-19.6%), Italy (-31.4%), and Belgium (-61.4%). In November, plug-in hybrids accounted for 7.6% of the car market, down from 8.1% last year. The accumulated volumes over the eleven months of 2024 also fell, decreasing by 8% compared to the same period last year.

On their part, registrations of electric hybrids grew by 18.5% in November, with market share rising to 33.2%, compared to 27.5% recorded in the same period of 2023, surpassing gasoline vehicle registrations for the third consecutive month.

In the penultimate month of 2024, sales of vehicles equipped with gasoline combustion engines fell by 7.8%. France saw the sharpest decline at 31.5%, followed by Italy with a drop of 12.3%. More modest declines were observed in Germany at -5.3% and Spain at -2.3%.

Thus, with 266,115 units registered in November, gasoline cars now account for 30.6% of the market, down from 32.5% recorded in November 2023.

As for the diesel vehicle market, it recorded a decrease of 15.3% in the eleventh month of 2024, resulting in a market share of 10.6%. “Overall, reductions were observed in most markets of the European Union”, the ACEA statement adds.
