Honda confirmed this Tuesday that the new hybrid Prelude will arrive in Europe in early 2026 and will feature for the first time the innovative “S+ Shift” technology to further enhance the “driving pleasure” that the brand’s latest sports coupe promises to offer.
The Honda “S+ Shift” technology simulates the sound and feel of rapid gear changes in the automatic transmission, providing the new generation of Prelude drivers with the exhilarating driving pleasure characteristic of the model.
After its debut 46 years ago, the original model was considered a breakthrough in cutting-edge technology, becoming a highly successful model for Honda over five generations until 2001, when the Japanese brand ended Prelude production.
Now, the sixth generation of the sports coupe promises to continue the legacy of previous generations, offering an appealing combination of style and sophistication, along with a hybrid powertrain.
“The Honda Prelude is an iconic model, and its return promises to strengthen its legacy with our emblematic hybrid performance and the latest dynamic technology. All with the aim of providing not only exceptional efficiency but also the performance and driving pleasure that characterizes this model”, said Hans De Jaeger, senior vice president of Honda Motor Europe.
The announcement of the new generation Prelude’s arrival in Europe comes at a time when the brand is celebrating a quarter of a century of its experience in the hybrid segment, a journey that began in 1999 with the launch of the revolutionary Insight Coupe, the first mass-produced hybrid model in Europe.
