Charles Leclerc’s 2024 Formula 1 season ended on a bittersweet note, with the Monegasque driver finishing third in the Drivers’ Championship and Ferrari narrowly losing out to McLaren by just 14 points in the Constructors’ standings. While Leclerc delivered some electrifying performances, including a remarkable drive from 19th to 3rd in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the season left Ferrari grappling with what could have been.

A Rollercoaster Season for Ferrari and Leclerc

Leclerc’s 2024 campaign was a mix of dazzling moments and frustrating near-misses. The SF-24 showed flashes of brilliance but lacked the consistency to challenge McLaren and Red Bull over the course of the season. Despite these challenges, Leclerc managed to deliver key highlights that he will cherish forever.

“It’s been a very long season,” Leclerc reflected after receiving his FIA trophy for third place in the championship. “But I’ve realized some of my dreams.”

Among those dreams was a long-awaited victory at his home Grand Prix in Monaco—a race he had previously called his “white whale” due to years of misfortune on the Monte Carlo streets. Leclerc also triumphed at Monza, sending the Tifosi into raptures and reinforcing his place as a Ferrari icon.

A Historic Family Moment in Abu Dhabi

While Abu Dhabi marked a challenging finale to the season for Leclerc, it also brought a deeply personal highlight. Ferrari made history by fielding Leclerc and his younger brother, Arthur, in Free Practice 1, marking the first time two brothers shared the same F1 team on a race weekend.

“Driving with my younger brother in FP1 was very special,” Leclerc said. “It was a dream that was quite unexpected but an incredible moment for our family.”

Arthur’s presence on the track with Charles was part of Ferrari’s commitment to nurturing young talent, giving Arthur valuable track time as part of the team’s driver development program.

The End of an Era: Carlos Sainz Departs Ferrari

Leclerc’s partnership with Carlos Sainz, which spanned four seasons, came to a close in Abu Dhabi. Sainz’s strong second-place finish in the season finale was a fitting farewell, but the Spaniard’s departure to Williams signals a new chapter for Ferrari. Sainz’s consistent performances helped Ferrari stay competitive in the Constructors’ battle, and his absence will leave a significant void.

The Arrival of Lewis Hamilton: A New Dynamic for 2025

Leclerc’s 2025 season will bring a seismic shift as seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton joins Ferrari from Mercedes. The pairing of Leclerc and Hamilton is already being touted as one of the most formidable driver lineups in recent history. While the duo’s combined talent offers immense promise, it also raises questions about team dynamics and leadership within Ferrari.

Leclerc, now firmly established as Ferrari’s leading driver, will face the challenge of sharing the garage with one of F1’s greatest racers. However, the Monegasque has expressed his excitement about working with Hamilton and the opportunity to learn from his wealth of experience.

Looking Ahead: Ferrari’s Path to Redemption

Ferrari’s 2024 season may have fallen short of their lofty goals, but their resurgence is evident. With Leclerc and Hamilton behind the wheel and an aggressive development plan for 2025, the Scuderia is poised to challenge McLaren and Red Bull for supremacy.

For Leclerc, the focus remains on building consistency and extracting every ounce of performance from Ferrari’s machinery. His determination and passion for the team are undeniable, and his triumphs at Monaco and Monza have solidified his legacy with the Prancing Horse.

“There were a lot of positive moments in a season like this,” Leclerc concluded. “Now it’s about taking those moments and building on them for the future.”

The Stakes Are High in 2025

As Ferrari ushers in a new era with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, the pressure to deliver has never been greater. The team will be looking to reclaim the Constructors’ Championship and provide their drivers with the tools to challenge for individual glory. For Leclerc, 2025 represents both an opportunity and a challenge—a chance to lead Ferrari to greatness while contending with one of the most decorated drivers in the sport’s history.

Will Leclerc rise to the occasion and finally clinch his first Drivers’ Championship, or will Hamilton’s arrival shift the balance of power within Ferrari? One thing is certain: the battle for supremacy at the Scuderia will be one of the most captivating storylines of the upcoming season.
