Lando Norris suffered a spectacular accident on the third lap of the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, which even led him to go through a hospital unit to rule out any injuries.
It was a somewhat strange incident, without there being a collision or an apparent failure in the car that caused him to lose control. The explanation may lie in the surface of the city track, as explained by McLaren team boss Andrea Stella, quoted by PlanetF1.com: ‘There is a bump in that place. You can see all the cars sparking when they pass over that bump. I think the combination of the bump and the cold tires may have caught him by surprise’.
The Norris team manager then requested that the problem be corrected by 2024: ‘I think that bump, if we continue to race at night, should be fixed because the tires will always be cold, low grip, and it becomes a very complicated turn. We already saw some cases of oversteer in that spot during the weekend. So, regardless of the schedule, I would strongly recommend that this bump be smoothed out’.
