Although Stellantis assures that the Mirafiori factory in Turin, Italy, will produce the next generation of the Fiat 500, the production halt expected until early January is set to be longer than anticipated.
According to a report this Thursday from “Reuters,” the FIOM-Cgil union, Italian Federation of Metalworkers, confirmed that the production unit will remain idle until January 20.
Mirafiori has experienced several production stoppages throughout 2024 due to a decline in demand for the 500e, a 100% electric model, as well as for luxury sports models like the Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio, which are produced at the Turin factory.
At the end of November, Stellantis announced that the assembly lines would halt again until January 5 due to “ongoing sales uncertainty”; however, according to the union, the stoppage will be extended longer than initially planned.
“Reuters” reports that Stellantis has not yet confirmed the extension of the Mirafiori factory shutdown for an additional 15 days beyond what was initially communicated to workers.
