Stellantis is going through one of the most turbulent periods in its history, but despite this, the brand continues to develop its strategy towards electric mobility and has recently announced that the next generation of the Fiat 500 will arrive in 2032.
Furthermore, the group has ensured that the production of the iconic Cinquecento will continue at the Mirafiori factory in Turin, well beyond 2030, thus reinforcing its commitment to maintaining a strong presence in automotive production in Italy.
Considering that Fiat is facing difficulties with the sales of the 500e, Jean-Philippe Imparato, former CEO of Alfa Romeo and current Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis for the Extended Europe region, revealed in an interview with the Italian magazine “Quattroroute” that the “Cinquecento” remains one of the most recognized brands in the urban car segment in Europe.
Imparato promised to keep the Mirafiori factory busy with the production of the Fiat 500, even when the next generation arrives in 2032. Before that happens, the Stellantis executive is working to ensure that the new mild-hybrid version of the current 500 model hits the market as soon as possible, which according to Imparato should happen within a year.
According to Jean-Philippe Imparato, as soon as the 500 range is complete with 100% electric and hybrid options, the goal is to “start anew with a production of about 100,000 vehicles per year”. Remember that recently Fiat temporarily suspended the production of the 500e due to a drop in demand for 100% electric models globally.
