As the Formula 1 world turned its focus to Lewis Hamilton’s emotional farewell from Mercedes, Lando Norris couldn’t resist adding his candid take to the mix. While the seven-time world champion prepares to don the famous red suit at Ferrari in 2025, Norris called out the over-the-top send-off, joking that people were acting as if Hamilton was leaving the sport entirely.

“He’s Not Leaving F1, He’s Just Switching Teams!”

Norris, known for his cheeky humor and sharp insights, shared his thoughts on the flurry of farewell tributes over the Abu Dhabi weekend. Though respectful of Hamilton’s legacy, Norris found the level of emotion somewhat exaggerated.

“I feel like everyone is wishing him a farewell from F1, but he’s just going to another team,” Norris quipped.

The McLaren star, who often clashed with Hamilton on-track during a fiercely competitive 2024 season, made it clear that while he respects the milestone of Hamilton’s Mercedes departure, the Brit isn’t disappearing from the grid just yet.

“Everyone Wants Ferrari on Their Resume”

Hamilton’s decision to leave Mercedes after 12 years and countless victories left the paddock buzzing. Reflecting on the move, Norris hinted that joining Ferrari is a dream for almost every driver—Hamilton included.

“Everyone wants to go to Ferrari at some point in their career. I think it’s something very special. Even Lewis, who’s grown up and been part of Mercedes since he was a kid, wants to tick that off his life list.”

Ferrari’s historical significance as the most iconic team in Formula 1 appears to have been a pull even for a driver who has achieved nearly everything in the sport. As Hamilton takes on the challenge of restoring the Scuderia’s former glory, his new adventure could mark the next chapter in his illustrious career.

From Silver Arrow to Prancing Horse

Hamilton’s switch to Ferrari represents a seismic shift in the paddock dynamics. After a 12-year journey that delivered six drivers’ titles with Mercedes, the 39-year-old embarks on what many are calling the ultimate “legacy move.”

For Ferrari, the acquisition of Hamilton signals serious intent as they look to build on a competitive 2024 campaign that saw them narrowly miss the constructors’ title. With Hamilton joining Charles Leclerc, the pairing is already being hailed as a potential super-team.

Norris and Hamilton: Mutual Respect Amid Fierce Rivalry

Despite their on-track battles, Norris and Hamilton have shared a cordial relationship, with Norris acknowledging Hamilton’s impact on the sport. However, Norris has also been unafraid to challenge the status quo—both in racing and rhetoric—proving he’s ready to step into a leadership role at McLaren.

“Hamilton going to Ferrari is huge, but it’s also a great reminder that even legends need new challenges,” Norris said.

What’s Next for Hamilton?

While the emotional goodbye at Mercedes made headlines, the real challenge begins for Hamilton in 2025. As Ferrari continues its resurgence, expectations will be sky-high for the veteran to deliver results. Meanwhile, Norris remains laser-focused on bringing more glory to McLaren after helping them clinch the 2024 Constructors’ Championship.

Whether Hamilton can reignite Ferrari’s championship hopes or Norris can maintain his momentum, one thing is certain: the 2025 season will be one for the history books.
