Lewis Hamilton Bids Emotional Farewell to PETRONAS in Malaysia

In a poignant finale to his 12-year partnership with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS, Lewis Hamilton visited Malaysia to express his gratitude to the team’s title sponsor, PETRONAS, and to bid farewell to their employees and devoted fans. The trip marked Hamilton’s final official appearance as a Mercedes driver after his last race in Abu Dhabi, where he finished fourth.

A Legacy of Innovation and Success

Hamilton’s visit to PETRONAS’ iconic Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur was a heartfelt tribute to a collaboration that began in 2010, fueling one of the most successful partnerships in Formula 1 history. Over 1,000 PETRONAS employees gathered to celebrate the legacy, as Hamilton reflected on their shared accomplishments and the deep bonds forged over more than a decade.

“To be part of a partnership like this—one of the greatest in the history of the sport—is something I am so proud of,” said Hamilton. “These 12 years are something I will never forget. Through the highs and the lows, it has always felt like we are a family.”

Hamilton’s Final Words to PETRONAS

The seven-time world champion didn’t hold back his emotions, thanking PETRONAS for its groundbreaking innovations in fuel and lubricants that powered him to 84 wins, 78 pole positions, and six drivers’ championships during his tenure. He also highlighted the off-track contributions, such as inspiring children into STEAM education and community-focused initiatives like mangrove planting and university support.

“I’ve been thrilled to help with some of the amazing work PETRONAS has done in the community,” Hamilton shared. “I want to say a big thank you to PETRONAS for everything we have done together. I will miss you all.”

A Malaysian Fan Celebration

The visit culminated in a grand fan event hosted at a 3,000-person capacity exhibition hall. Fans celebrated the Briton’s legacy with PETRONAS, reflecting the immense growth in Formula 1’s popularity in Malaysia during his career.

PETRONAS Senior General Manager Siti Azlina Abd Latif expressed the company’s heartfelt appreciation for Hamilton’s contributions: “Wherever the future takes him, he will always be a part of the PETRONAS family.”

12 Years of Record-Breaking Success

Hamilton’s career with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS, which began in 2013, was driven by PETRONAS’ innovation in performance fuels and lubricants. Their partnership propelled the team to unprecedented heights, securing eight consecutive constructors’ championships and solidifying Hamilton’s place among the sport’s all-time greats.

As Hamilton embarks on a new chapter with Ferrari in 2025, his Malaysian farewell underscores the profound impact of his time with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS—a legacy built on collaboration, innovation, and unparalleled success.
