Alex Albon is contracted with Williams for the 2025 season, despite interest from leading teams, according to James Vowles, the team principal of Williams. Both Red Bull and Mercedes have openings beyond this year, as Sergio Perez’s contract expires and Lewis Hamilton moves to Ferrari. Vowles stated, “Alex is signed with Williams until the end of 2025 – that’s confirmed. I haven’t made this public because I don’t see the need to. Any reports suggesting otherwise are mere speculation. As I’ve mentioned before, it is our responsibility at Williams to create an environment that is deserving of a driver like Alex. It’s that simple. And I still stand by that.”

Vowles continued, praising Albon’s skills and expressing his desire to continue the journey together. He stated, “He is an exceptional driver who deserves a place at the front. His performances last year were on par with some of the other champions I’ve worked with. He successfully held off half the field in one race and overcame difficult situations to score points. We have regular discussions about our future plans, and our intention is to stay together for a long time as a team.”

However, Vowles clarified that Albon is not completely off-limits to other teams. He indicated that negotiations could be considered if releasing the 27-year-old would benefit Williams in the long run. Vowles explained, “Regarding Alex’s situation – would I prevent him from pursuing opportunities elsewhere? My primary responsibility is towards Williams in the long term. It’s not about one individual, in this case, Alex, but about the team as a whole. If any decision is made, it will be because I firmly believe it aligns with the team’s long-term goals, rather than short-term gains.”
