Oliver Solberg Set for 2025 WRC2 Title Challenge with Printsport Toyota

In a significant career move, Oliver Solberg will switch from Škoda to a Printsport-run Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 for the 2025 World Rally Championship season, aiming to capture the WRC2 crown after a narrow runner-up finish this year.

Solberg, who lost the 2024 WRC2 title to Sami Pajari by just three points, will now inherit the very car that propelled Pajari to championship glory. With Pajari stepping up to Toyota’s works Rally1 team for 2025, Solberg is poised to make his own case for a return to the sport’s top tier.

A New Chapter with Printsport

Solberg expressed enthusiasm about joining Printsport and getting behind the wheel of Toyota’s GR Yaris Rally2, a car that has shown immense promise since its debut less than a year ago:

“Printsport is a very professional, successful team. I know many of the guys from the past, so it felt right to go with them. The Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 has shown incredible potential, and I’m looking forward to seeing what it can do in stage mode when I test it for the first time.”

The young Swede acknowledged Toyota Gazoo Racing’s relentless development and praised the Yaris’ speed, having competed against it throughout 2024. With a strong testing program planned, Solberg is confident he will be well-prepared to take on his WRC2 rivals.

A Tough Goodbye to Škoda

Leaving Škoda and the Toksport team was an emotional decision for Solberg, who delivered consistent results during his tenure:

“Leaving Škoda was not an easy decision—I’m really proud of what me and Elliott [Edmondson, co-driver] achieved together, and I’m very grateful to the Škoda Motorsport and Toksport teams for the last two years.”

However, the opportunity to work with Printsport and Toyota presented a chance to build on his recent success and aim higher.

Printsport’s High Hopes

Eero Räikkönen, Printsport’s team principal, warmly welcomed Solberg to the team, expressing confidence in his potential to deliver a thrilling and successful season:

“We’re excited to welcome Oliver to our team. His talent and determination, combined with Elliott’s experience, promise an exciting year. We are committed to achieving the best results together.”

Eyes on the Prize

After coming so close to the WRC2 title in 2024, Solberg has made it clear that his sights are firmly set on taking the championship in 2025:

“The target for 2025 is definitely to push for the title. Missing out by just three points this year hurts, but I’m only looking forward now. The aim is to win as many rounds as possible and secure the championship.”

Pathway to Rally1?

While Solberg’s immediate focus is on the WRC2 championship, his move to Toyota brings him closer to a potential Rally1 opportunity. The Japanese manufacturer demonstrated its ability to elevate talent, with Sami Pajari making the jump to Rally1 after his WRC2 triumph. Solberg’s success with Printsport could position him as the next in line for a top-tier drive.

As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on Solberg and his Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 as he aims to cement his place as one of rallying’s brightest stars.
