Chinese Grand Prix Secures Long-Term Spot on Formula 1 Calendar Through 2030

Formula 1 has announced a landmark five-year extension for the Chinese Grand Prix, ensuring its place on the calendar through 2030. The decision comes after an enthusiastic return of the race in 2024, following a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Shanghai International Circuit, an iconic venue in F1, welcomed a record-breaking 200,000 fans this year, marking a historic moment as Zhou Guanyu became the first Chinese driver to compete in front of a home crowd. The overwhelming fan support and strategic importance of the Chinese market solidified its position as a cornerstone of Formula 1’s global growth strategy.

F1’s Commitment to China

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, expressed his excitement about the renewed partnership:

“Our return to China this season for the first time since 2019 was a fantastic moment for the sport. It’s incredible to see the levels of support that we enjoy in the country continuing to grow year-on-year. Shanghai is an incredible city, and the racetrack is a wonderful test for our drivers. I’m delighted Formula 1 will continue its successful partnership with the Chinese Grand Prix for a further five years.”

Domenicali also thanked local partners for their dedication and passion, emphasizing the race’s importance on the global stage.

A Boost for Shanghai and Global Fans

Guo Jianfei, Chairman of Shanghai Jiushi Group, the event promoter, highlighted the Grand Prix’s value beyond just motorsport:

“For many years, Jiushi Group and Juss Sports have strived for excellence in event organization. This renewal is a testament to that commitment and is excellent news for fans in China. It’s also a perfect platform to showcase Shanghai to the world as millions tune in globally.”

Guo further emphasized that the Grand Prix is not just a sporting event but also a driver of positive societal impact, with plans to optimize event experiences and foster innovation for sustainable contributions to the community.

Looking Ahead

The 2025 Chinese Grand Prix is set to take place on March 21-23, marking the second stop of the calendar. With its long-term future secure, the event will continue to be a marquee destination for F1, bringing thrilling action to one of the world’s most vibrant cities and strengthening the sport’s foothold in the vital Asian market.

For fans, drivers, and teams alike, Shanghai promises to remain a crucial chapter in the unfolding story of Formula 1.
