Adrien Fourmaux, one of the rising stars of the World Rally Championship (WRC), is set to leave M-Sport after a transformative five-year journey to join Hyundai Motorsport for the 2025 season. This weekend’s Monza Rally will mark Fourmaux’s final event with the British team before he begins his new chapter alongside reigning world champion Thierry Neuville and 2019 champion Ott Tänak at Hyundai.

A journey of growth with M-Sport

Fourmaux’s entire WRC career has been intertwined with M-Sport, starting in the WRC2 class before earning a promotion to the premier Rally1 category in 2021. While his 2022 campaign was marred by crashes, Fourmaux rebounded in 2023 with a stellar performance in the Rally2 category, culminating in a British Rally Championship victory.

In 2024, the Frenchman exceeded expectations with five podium finishes and 11 stage wins in the Puma Rally1, demonstrating maturity and a refined driving style that caught Hyundai’s attention.

Praise from M-Sport leadership

M-Sport chairman Malcolm Wilson expressed his admiration for Fourmaux’s resilience and growth:
“I have been incredibly impressed with Adrien’s performances this year. Despite the challenges he has faced, he has shown grit and determination, emerging stronger from every experience. His partnership with Alex [Coria] has been integral to his development, and I believe they are an excellent pairing for the next phase of their careers.”

Team principal Richard Millener echoed Wilson’s sentiments, emphasizing the impact Fourmaux has had on the team:
“It has been a pleasure to work with Adrien and Alex. Sharing the joy of five podiums this year has been special. They’ve carved out this opportunity for themselves through sheer hard work and determination, and they fully deserve it.”

Both Wilson and Millener highlighted the family-like bond that Fourmaux and Coria shared with the team, making their departure bittersweet.

Fourmaux reflects on his time with M-Sport

Grateful for the role M-Sport played in his career, Fourmaux expressed his deep appreciation:
“I came to M-Sport in 2018 as a young driver and mechanic, and now leave with victories and podiums in all classifications. Malcolm and the team have always supported my growth, and I’ve learned so much with them. We’ve had our ups and downs, but M-Sport has been a family to me.”

In a heartfelt farewell, he added: “This is not a goodbye, but a ‘see you next time.’”

Hyundai’s vote of confidence

Hyundai’s decision to bring Fourmaux onboard underscores their commitment to building a formidable team for the 2025 WRC season. Team principal Cyril Abiteboul praised Fourmaux’s 2024 performance and renewed mindset, stating:
“Adrien has impressed not only with results but also with the attitude he’s brought to Rally1. We believe our lineup of Thierry, Ott, and Adrien will be a formidable force in 2025.”

Looking ahead

As Fourmaux embarks on this exciting new chapter, his departure from M-Sport marks the end of a transformative era for both the driver and the team. While his future with Hyundai holds great promise, Fourmaux leaves the door open for a potential return to the team that nurtured his talent.

For now, all eyes will be on Fourmaux and Coria as they close their M-Sport chapter at Monza, ready to take on the world’s toughest rally stages with Hyundai in 2025.
