Project91 Is Alive and Kicking: Justin Marks Teases a Star-Studded Future for Trackhouse Racing’s Ambitious Program

Justin Marks talks with a crew member after Trans Am practice Friday, July 7, 2023, at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

After a quiet 2024 season for Project91, Trackhouse Racing co-owner Justin Marks has put to rest rumors about the program’s demise. The groundbreaking initiative, which brings international racing champions into the NASCAR Cup Series, is set to roar back to life in 2025, with plans to feature another superstar driver.

Project91’s evolution: From experiment to legacy

Marks reflected on the success of Project91, which debuted as a limited-entry program designed to give global racing talent a taste of NASCAR’s premier series. The initiative’s crown jewel so far has been Shane van Gisbergen, a three-time Supercars champion, who is transitioning to full-time Cup racing in 2025—a move Marks calls a testament to the program’s impact.

“Project91 is certainly not dead,” Marks affirmed. “It’s amazing to see how it’s evolved from a one-off or two-off deal in 2023 into something real and significant in the sport. Shane’s move to the States, committing fully to NASCAR, shows the power of this project.”

2024’s challenges and the promise of 2025

Marks acknowledged that the program’s inactivity in 2024 stemmed from logistical challenges. Between preparing cars for van Gisbergen’s part-time outings and supporting him through his stint with Kaulig Racing, the team’s resources were stretched thin.

“The only reason it wasn’t on the racetrack this year was that we just had so much going on,” Marks admitted. “We had the third car for SVG and helped him with his transition, but we simply couldn’t make arrangements for other drivers.”

Despite these hurdles, Marks confirmed the program’s commitment to returning stronger next season:
“I’d expect to see Project91 on the track sooner rather than later. We’ve got great partners, great sponsorship, and big plans for the next chapter.”

What’s next for Project91?

Marks hinted at exciting developments for 2025, with another global racing superstar likely to join the ranks. “We’re looking at some real star power,” he said, emphasizing the appeal of bringing fresh personalities and international flair to NASCAR.

While no names have been confirmed, the program’s track record suggests fans can expect another high-profile entry. Previous Project91 drivers have included F1 champion Kimi Räikkönen, and the program’s success has captured global attention.

A game-changing initiative in NASCAR

Trackhouse Racing, one of the sport’s youngest teams, has quickly become a powerhouse since entering NASCAR just before the Next-Gen era. Project91’s impact has been pivotal in expanding the series’ global appeal, making it a cornerstone of the team’s identity.

For Marks, the program isn’t just about racing—it’s about storytelling and breaking barriers. “Shane moving to NASCAR full-time resonates with so many people. It’s fun, it’s exciting, and it’s a perfect example of what Project91 can do.”

Looking ahead to 2025

As Project91 gears up for a new chapter, the NASCAR world eagerly awaits the next star driver to join its ranks. Whether it’s a champion from Formula 1, IndyCar, or another global series, Trackhouse Racing’s innovative program promises to keep pushing boundaries and redefining what’s possible in the Cup Series.

With Marks at the helm and a proven track record of success, 2025 could be Project91’s most ambitious and exciting year yet.
