Estonian driver Paul Aron Joins Alpine F1 Team as 2025 Reserve Driver

Estonian driver Paul Aron, currently competing in Formula 2, will step into the role of Reserve Driver for BWT Alpine Formula One Team in 2025. Aron replaces Australian Jack Doohan, who is set to graduate to a full-time Alpine F1 seat alongside Pierre Gasly, following Esteban Ocon’s departure to Haas.

Aron, who remains a contender for the 2024 Formula 2 title, expressed excitement about the new chapter in his career.

Alpine’s Strategic Move for the Future

Alpine executive advisor Flavio Briatore highlighted the team’s commitment to nurturing young talent as part of a broader generational shift in Formula 1.

  • “We are very pleased to have Paul join BWT Alpine Formula One Team as our 2025 Reserve Driver,” said Briatore.
  • “There is a generational shift in Formula 1 at the moment. We see many young drivers coming into the sport and making an impact. We believe Paul is one of the best talents, and we look forward to developing him into an F1 driver.”

Aron’s Reaction

The 22-year-old Estonian expressed gratitude for the opportunity and reaffirmed his focus on the current F2 championship battle.

  • “It’s incredibly special to be joining BWT Alpine Formula One Team,” Aron said.
  • “This is a great place to be for any young driver, and I’m really pleased that Flavio and Oliver [Oakes] have given me this opportunity.”

Despite the long-term prospects with Alpine, Aron emphasized the immediate goal of competing for the F2 title.

  • “I have a championship to focus on for the remainder of this year, and I will be giving it my all to compete for the title. I’m looking forward to beginning the work and continuing my career pathway in motorsport.”

The Road Ahead for Alpine

With Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan forming the 2025 driver lineup, and Aron stepping into a key reserve role, Alpine appears to be doubling down on its driver development pipeline. Aron’s arrival signals the team’s confidence in building a future around emerging talents who can carry forward Alpine’s ambitions in the highly competitive F1 landscape.
