Lando Norris delivered a stunning lap of 1:21.012 to claim pole position for the Sprint race at the Qatar Grand Prix, showcasing his exceptional form as McLaren continues its push for a long-awaited constructors’ championship. Norris, fresh off a win in the Interlagos Sprint, now positions himself as the favorite for Saturday’s race at the Lusail International Circuit.

A Season of Brilliance for Norris

The 25-year-old Briton has been nothing short of sensational in 2024, racking up three wins and 12 podiums. His performance has propelled McLaren to the top of the constructors’ standings with a 24-point lead heading into the final two rounds.

“It’s tough, it’s so quick around here. It feels like the quickest circuit of the year,” Norris reflected after qualifying.
“The final sector, you are just hanging on. Great qualifying today, great to bounce back from where we were in Vegas.”

McLaren’s Ambitious Goal: 1-2 Finishes

With Oscar Piastri starting from P3, McLaren has the opportunity to maximize points with a coveted 1-2 finish. Norris emphasized the team’s united approach to every session:

“I want to win. We want to win every session as drivers. We want 1-2. We know Mercedes and Ferrari will be quick. We expect it to be an exciting one tomorrow.”

Piastri, who has consistently supported Norris in McLaren’s championship charge, will need to find additional pace to match his teammate and fend off challenges from Mercedes and Ferrari.

A Long-Awaited Triumph for McLaren?

McLaren last secured the constructors’ championship in 1998, and the current campaign marks their closest bid since. With Mercedes and Ferrari breathing down their necks, the Woking-based team faces two intense final weekends.

What to Watch in the Sprint

  • Norris on Form: Can he convert pole into another Sprint win?
  • Piastri’s Push: Will the Aussie help secure McLaren’s 1-2 ambition?
  • Ferrari & Mercedes Threat: Expect a tight battle for podium spots as both teams fight to close the gap.

The Sprint race promises high stakes and thrilling action as McLaren seeks to extend its lead and edge closer to a historic title.
