After a stunning partnership that saw them climb from the Junior WRC to WRC2 champions, Sami Pajari and Enni Mälkönen will go their separate ways at the end of the 2024 season. Rally Japan marks the bittersweet conclusion of a journey that has defined both their careers.

“A Partnership Forged in Glory”

Pajari and Mälkönen first joined forces in 2022, one year after Pajari secured his Junior WRC title. Over the next three years, the Finnish duo carved out a legacy, clinching four WRC2 victories, the 2024 WRC2 championship, and even taking on the top-tier Rally1 class in three events with Toyota.

Reflecting on the split, Pajari expressed gratitude and acceptance of the professional transition.

“It’s just something normal that happens in working life, that people come and go,” Pajari told reporters. “What better place to part ways than after achieving the main goal—winning the championship and celebrating together.”

“A Historic Finale in Rally Japan”

Their final event together at Rally Japan serves as the perfect bookend to their illustrious collaboration. While the decision to part ways may seem abrupt, Pajari hinted at the possibility of a future reunion.

“Never say never that we won’t drive together again,” he said. “But now, it’s time for something else.”

“What’s Next for Pajari?”

While Pajari remained tight-lipped about his next co-driver, he assured fans an announcement is imminent.

“The last three years have been incredible, with so many special results. Now, it’s time for something different, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”

“A Legacy of Excellence”

The Pajari-Mälkönen partnership symbolizes a meteoric rise through the ranks, showcasing resilience, teamwork, and unparalleled skill. Their triumph in 2024 solidifies their place in rallying history, even as their paths diverge. As they celebrate one final podium together, their legacy as one of WRC2’s most formidable duos is unquestionable.
