The new BMW and BYD factories under construction in Hungary are expected to start production in the second half of 2025.
According to reports from “Reuters,” BMW’s production facility in Debrecen will focus on producing the new generation of electric vehicles, Neue Klasse, while BYD’s new production unit, located in Szeged, will be the first European factory for passenger vehicles.
This new production unit from BYD will allow the Chinese manufacturer to avoid the significant increase in import tariffs imposed by the European Union on electric vehicles produced in China. It is already known that BYD will pay a 17% tax on fully electric cars exported to Europe, in addition to the existing 10% tariff.
It is worth noting that Germany is Hungary’s main trading partner in Europe, with several car factories established in the country, including production units from Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
