The Volkswagen Group has so far failed to find a buyer for the Audi factory in Brussels, making the closure of that unit quite likely by 2025.
According to “Automotive News Europe”, which cites a company source, the task force assigned to find a solution for the immediate future of the factory and its workers has not found any viable alternatives, after a potential investor from the commercial vehicle sector backed out of their interest in that production unit.
It is worth noting that in October, Audi’s COO, Gerd Walker, stated that none of the potential investors who expressed interest in the site offered a viable solution for the Brussels factory.
Currently, the factory employs 3,000 workers who produce the Q8 E-tron; however, production of Audi’s luxury electric SUV is expected to end by the end of February.
If a solution for the future is not found, the Brussels factory could become the first production unit of the VW Group to close due to cost-cutting measures.
