Sergio Perez Eyes Mexican F1 Successor as He Hints at Career Wind-Down

With Mexico’s passion for Formula 1 growing stronger every season, Sergio Perez, currently the only Mexican driver on the F1 grid, has expressed a personal desire to help guide a young compatriot to the sport’s upper echelon. The Red Bull Racing star, now 34, hinted at mentoring aspiring Mexican drivers as he nears the twilight of his career.

“One day, I’d love to work with young drivers, especially from Mexico,” Perez shared. “The interest in F1 from my country has been huge, and I’d love to see that excitement continue with another Mexican on the grid.”

Perez’s current contract with Red Bull runs through 2025, yet rumors continue to swirl about his potential replacement as early as next season. Several F1 analysts have speculated about who might take his seat, with Williams’ rising star among the potential contenders.

Acknowledging the toll of an intense 24-race calendar, Perez noted the impact his career has had on his family. “I’m older than Max, so I’m aware my time in F1 is limited. I’m 34, and my children are growing up fast. Spending so much time away isn’t sustainable forever,” he admitted.

While Perez remains focused on finishing his Red Bull contract, he is well aware that securing his seat will require a strong performance in the season’s final races. As he contemplates the next generation, Perez’s hope is to leave an F1 legacy for Mexico—one that continues to inspire.
