Bernie Ecclestone Shuts Down Sebastian Vettel’s F1 Comeback Hopes, Proposes Bold Move for Red Bull’s Driver Lineup

The 2024 Formula 1 season has seen plenty of transfer drama, including whispers of a possible comeback for four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel. The German legend, who retired in 2022 to focus on family, recently explored the idea of returning to the grid, only to be persuaded otherwise by former F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone.

After nearly two years away, Vettel reportedly felt the pull of the track once more, even considering a seat for 2025. However, the 94-year-old Ecclestone, a trusted friend and mentor to Vettel, advised him to reconsider. Ecclestone bluntly said, “I had to talk him out of his comeback dreams. Why should a four-time world champion do that to himself?” With Ecclestone’s influence, it seems Vettel’s F1 comeback has hit a permanent roadblock, leaving a gap for German representation on the grid.

Meanwhile, Red Bull, struggling in the Constructors’ Championship, has faced underwhelming results from driver Sergio Perez. In the latest triple-header, Red Bull managed only single-digit points, while rivals collected large hauls, adding pressure to the team’s future strategy.

In response, Ecclestone suggested a high-stakes solution to Red Bull’s woes: give a shot in Perez’s seat to assess his readiness alongside Max Verstappen. “Then we would know now whether the Japanese driver is really ready for the job,” Ecclestone proposed, underscoring the urgency for Red Bull to shake up their lineup.

For now, Red Bull appears set to stick with Perez until the end of 2024, but with the Constructors’ Championship slipping away, Ecclestone’s suggestion could gain traction as Red Bull looks for a way to regain its competitive edge in 2025.
