Mercedes-AMG confirma que vai produzir um SUV 100% elétrico

For the first time in its 57-year history, Mercedes-AMG has confirmed that it is developing an SUV in-house, based on the high-performance electric platform AMG.EA, and that it will not be based on an existing model.

High-performance SUVs have long been the cornerstone of AMG’s portfolio. Over 25 years ago, the Affalterbach brand pioneered this segment with the launch of the ML 55 AMG.

Now, Mercedes-AMG is designing the entire vehicle architecture for the first time. This midsize SUV will be the second model built on the fully electric high-performance AMG.EA platform. Additionally, it represents the sixth vehicle fully developed by the experts from the Affalterbach brand, joining the AMG EA, currently in testing, as well as the GT, SL, previous generation GT models, and SLS.

“Our new high-performance architecture follows a clear philosophy: ‘AMG First, EV Second’. This means that the vehicles do not stand out merely as electric vehicles, but also embody the core AMG qualities of emotion and performance,” said Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Head of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Mercedes-Maybach divisions.

It is already known that the AMG.EA platform can support a pair of electric motors on each axle and features 800 V electrical components along with a specific AMG battery using a silicon anode. Mercedes-AMG also revealed that the high-performance electric SUV is expected to begin performance testing soon.
