AMG’s First All-Electric SUV to Challenge Porsche Cayenne EV with Four-Digit Horsepower

For the first time, Mercedes-AMG is breaking away from its Benz roots to create an entirely self-developed SUV, setting the stage to rival the upcoming electric Porsche Cayenne. Built on the exclusive AMG.EA platform, this yet-unnamed powerhouse is poised to redefine performance SUVs with a mix of innovation and muscle that only AMG could deliver.

While AMG has offered electrified versions of existing Mercedes-Benz models like the EQE SUV, this model will be a full-fledged AMG from the ground up, focusing on exhilarating performance. Think of it as the GLS-sized SUV from AMG’s Vision concept, built specifically for the electric age and designed with a streamlined, high-end look that hints at the future of AMG styling.

Set for a possible 2026 debut, this electric super SUV will feature revolutionary axial flux motors developed by Yasa, Mercedes-Benz’s electric motor subsidiary. Despite weighing in at just 53 pounds, these disc-shaped motors boast up to 480 hp each and 590 lb-ft of torque, providing an “unmatched power density” for such compact units. The AMG.EA platform could potentially host dual motors on each axle, creating an all-wheel-drive system with over 1,000 horsepower.

Beyond its sheer power, AMG’s SUV will showcase a 40% denser battery pack, improving both range and performance. With an 800V system, the model promises ultra-fast charging to rival the latest in high-performance EV technology.

Although specific pricing remains under wraps, this electric AMG SUV will undoubtedly command a premium above the Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV, which starts at $110,750 in the U.S. This all-electric beast will be AMG’s boldest leap into the EV market yet, setting the bar high for rivals in the luxury electric SUV sector.
