Charles Leclerc anticipates McLaren as the team to beat at this weekend’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix, though he believes Ferrari has a strong chance to continue its winning streak, given the advantages of the Sprint race format. After consecutive wins by Leclerc at the Circuit of The Americas and Carlos Sainz in Mexico City, Ferrari is looking to capitalize on the tight margins between teams at the challenging Interlagos track.

The Brazilian Grand Prix marks the penultimate Sprint weekend of the season, giving teams only one practice session to optimize setups before heading into competitive sessions. Leclerc acknowledges the unique pressure the Sprint format places on teams, noting Ferrari’s recent momentum but adding that McLaren’s form will make it a top contender.

“This track is definitely going to be a challenge for us,” Leclerc said. “On paper, it’s the second-most difficult remaining track for Ferrari after Qatar, but the differences are small. We have to make every second count in FP1. The Sprint format can work in our favor if we execute it perfectly. McLaren will be strong, but if we nail that one practice session, we could challenge for the win.”

Leclerc pointed out that Las Vegas looks promising for Ferrari, while Abu Dhabi is more balanced. He remains confident that if Ferrari maximizes the single practice session, it can make up the small performance gaps and even contend with McLaren. The fresh tarmac at Interlagos adds another layer of complexity, forcing teams to quickly adapt to unknown track conditions.

“FP1 is going to be crucial,” Leclerc added. “The team that anticipates and adapts best to the new track surface could have a major advantage. We’re aiming to be that team.”

Ferrari’s recent form has boosted team morale, but McLaren’s strength and the limited preparation time underscore the importance of strategy and precision in Sao Paulo. As Ferrari and McLaren prepare for another head-to-head battle, Leclerc is optimistic that Ferrari’s adaptability can keep them in the hunt for victory.
